the writer did write a sequel to the book so...if this does as we all hope it does and with dreamworks' new policy to only do sequels or franchises, then i see a definite possibility of a second 'home' in the next 3-4 years but i doubt rih will return unless they age Tip

Actual numbers according to boxoffice.com are 52.11 million, down 2 million from estimates. Still great #.

Playing in 63 markets, Home (2015) added $23.4 million this weekend. It opened to a very good $3 million in Mexico, but fell short of $1 million in Germany and Italy. Among holdover markets, it continued to put up good numbers in the U.K. ($3.7 million) and Russia ($3.4 million). The DreamWorks Animation flick has yet to open in five of the top 10 markets.

Jennifer Lopez was a rare feat as she hit #1 with a full-fledged studio album that had nothing to do with her film. It wasn't The Wedding Planner soundtrack. It was an actual album separate from the film. She was the first artist able to hit #1 at the box office with the film The Wedding Planner and hit #1 with the studio album, J.Lo, simultaneously in the same week.
No one had did it before and no one has done this to date yet, besides her of course.

While this is no doubt an impressive feat, there needs to be a bit more context to it though. How many popstars have released an album and a movie in the same week? If this was a normal occurrence, it would be more impressive that Jennifer Lopez was the only one to pull it off. Since hardly anyone does that and since having both a movie and a separate album are huge sources of promotion, it's not entirely surprising that a star of her magnitude could accomplish this. And having an album debut with 272,300 in 2001 isn't really the greatest thing to brag about.
If Rihanna had released her album the same week as Home, she'd surely have matched this, and possibly could have sold more than 272,000 copies, 14 years later.

Squeeze me?
I love rihanna but she wont ever see 4 times platinum in the US ever.
It went onto sell over 9 million worldwide and is certified 4 times platinum in the US alone
dont act like the JLo era was basic many many females that have more number 1s wish they had a album that had sales like the JLo album and do your research the JLo album topped 16 internatinol album charts.
JLos film and album made history dont try and water it down its a huge huge feat And is in the history books
No matter who does it now JLo was and will always be the first.

Many artists tried before Jen and after Jen, from Barbra Streisand to Mariah Carey. It's a very difficult win, the timing must be perfect for both careers. 272k in 2001 was still a great number, don't act like everybody in the industry used to sell over 500k in their first week. JLo was back then a ''slow seller''. Although it sold ''just'' 272k in its first week, it ended up selling almost 4 million copies in the US.

I never said the J.Lo era was basic. Did I?
I said that her opening numbers in a week that she had both an album and a film out is not very impressive for 2001 standards and that given that Rihanna released her album the same week as Home, that she could have matched that.
Of course 14 years later Rihanna will not go 4x platinum in the US. But overall sales isn't what I was talking about. We were talking about that double #1 that J.Lo got, which represents only a week's worth of statistics.
I agree it's a big feat. I'm just looking deeper into it and examining if it's something that can be duplicated under the right circumstances which mostly is just releasing them both at the same time. I'm sure J.Lo could do it again too if she just planned it out that way.

Her open numbers was fine i guess yes her debut album was very succesfull selling over 7.5 million (probs 8 million) but remember she only had 2 top 10 hits a number 1 single (if you had my love) and a top10 single (waiting for tonight)
She she want coming off a monster era but a sucsessful one. Thats why her 3rd stuido album did over 300,000 first week because by time if came round she came of a huge era!

Mariah is the only comparable example, and yes she did fail.
When did Barbra do that? In the 1960s/1970s? She's never really been considered a popstar though. But she is a great example to use.
I'm not saying that anyone can do it, but that it's doable. Do you honestly think that if Rihanna dropped an album when Home came out, that it wouldn't have been #1?

That's not a fair comparison. Jennifer Lopez was as a leading actress of her own film and the film was not an animated movie.
I love Rihanna or whomever, but that would not be a huge feat. You're trying and it shows. When an actor/singer hits #1 at the box office as a leading actress/actor (non-animated film) and at the same time hits #1 with their own studio album (non-soundtrack) then we can talk.
If it was so easy to do, Beyonce would have done it along with several others. But none have not. Nobody is paying to see Beyonce in a leading role in the theaters sis.

Meanwhile, DreamWorks' Home held its own as families turned out on the holiday. The pic added $11.3 million yesterday, boosting its eight-day total to $79.5 million -- generally in line with where 2009's Monsters vs. Aliens stood through the same point. BoxOffice projects a $29.7 million sophomore frame.

WOW at Home dropping only 40% despite crazy competition from Fast&Furious pulling $150M opening weekend.
Also, Monster Vs. Alien went on to earn $198M domestically. Home has a shot at %200M
I went to see Home yesterday. I LOVED it.
Rihanna Ha Power

Furious 7 is not a competition to Home at all. Totally different audience.

Ady is right. The hold is good but F7 isn't the reason.
