The only exciting period of 2014 is gonna be considered Q4 (which is exciting every year anyway) & the part of Q1 where Dark Horse, Happy & Let It Go/Frozen were all absolutely killing it (+ All of Me & Talk Dirty).
Adele's album is probably not coming until 2015.
So there's Taylor, Rihanna, Nicki & Usher for 2014. Lil Wayne is supposed to be releasing, but I am getting pushback until 2015 vibes from him. He's been to silent about it + his last single Krazy went by without a word. Believe Me was a hit though.

no one claims it sold 6m and Lana is an artist who sells over time and is already stabilizing on the charts.
Just because a lot of the reviewers at senior publications grew up in and have been reviewing since the golden age of rock doesn't mean that they don't enjoy other genres and have a lot of insight to bring into contemporary music. They generally review music from a wide variety of genres and find pieces to enjoy in them.
The exception is NME!! No publication that overrates Oasis and Arctic Monkeys to that extent can be trusted!
