I'm the rookie and the vet
"0 to 100 / The Catch Up" finds Drake combining the two sides of his musical persona for an interesting track. The first part, "0 to 100" finds his male bravado on 10, a la "Started from the Bottom". While the instrumental is fire, and Drake flows well enough, I've never been completely sold on his hyper masculine act. Blame it on the stint on Degrassi. No, the part of this track that really hits is the second part, "The Catch Up". Here, Drake seems reflective. He almost lets his insecurities about not everyone liking him get the best of him, but he reigns himself in and sets his eyes on his ultimate goal: rap game domination. I've always found it thrilling how he can manage to come across as both insecure and overly confident at the same time. I'm definitely looking forward to Dr4ke/Views from the 6.

Artist: DRAKE
Song: 0 to 100 / The Catch Up
For his new song or should I say 2 songs patched together, Drake teams up with his longtime collaborator Noah "40" Shebib again. The first part of the song is titled 0 to 100, a braggadocio rap song where Drake brags about having hit songs, making lots of money and other stuffs rappers keep bragging about since Day 1. Drake tried to be aggressive but failed, the lyrics are very juvenile and it unfortunately highlights Drake's weak rap flow. Noah's production is the best part of the song even though it sounds like it was based on Jay Z's chant "Jigga".
The second part is The Catch Up, a slower and moodier song. Drake's delivery on this is superb. The song is very complex as it only features one long verse then the chorus is on repeat until the song ends. The Catch Up is definitely the best part of the song and it restores all the Drake faith you lost while listening to 0 to 100.

Single Review: Drake: 0-100/The
Catch Up
Drake is one of those artists that I wish I liked more than I actually do. I find that a lot of his music, while usually at least decent, does nothing to really engage me. To make me care about him as a person or even as an artist. And on top of that, my least favorite flavor of Drake has always been the braggy, tough guy, look what a boss I am, Drake. That's why I consider Take Care his only album (though I haven't heard all his tapes pre-SFG) that seems genuine and really like Drake is playing mostly to his strengths. That cocky, 'hard' Drake is the Drake we get for the majority of this track needless to say, I was not blown away. The beat is good, pretty simple, but well put together. I definitely prefer this style to the often hazy and ethereal production he used on his last album. His flow is pretty typical Drake flow, and he sounds a little bit whiny to me behind the mic usually, which works better for some things than for others, but I barely picked up on that in this track which is a positive here. It's too chill, beat wise, flow wise, and voice wise for me to just use as a mindless banger even if I didn't care for the lyrics though. Speaking of the lyrics, let's focus there for a sec. The song is basically him reiterating that he is the leader of the new school and is coming for your fave's wig sooner rather than later. Pretty well trod ground, and there doesn't seem to be any new twists on it here, but the writing is serviceable enough. There are bars here and there that hint at a more nuanced, interesting backstory but those are only a brief tease before he slides back into the MO. I would love some really nuanced career reflection on his album. I think he has an interesting career so far. And by all means, he has earned his right to brag more than a little, I don't begrudge him some pride in his almost meteoric rise to the forefront of the new school, and hell, rap in general. I just wish he would do it a bit more convincingly and interestingly. Drake is a talented guy who seems to have just about everything going for him- why do I so often struggle to feel more towards his music than 'meh' or 'cool'. Overall, this track is fine, undeniably. But that's also all it is. Fine. And I'm waiting for the self proclaimed King of the New School to do better

Eh, decided to get it over with.
"0 to 100 / The Catch Up" REVIEW
Drake is a one-trick pony who can't seem to improve on the same trick. We've seen Drake go "hard", we've seen him soften up, but Aubrey Graham thought it be clever to put his two personas together on one track; possibly taking a page from his ex-beau, Rihanna's, book. What this demonstrates is that he has an overall strength that is masked by his ego. In the first half of the track, "0 to 100", we hear almost similar lyrics from "Started from the Bottom" laced over this minimalistic, hip-hop beat; there's no substance to be found, but his swag is "over 9000" that it should provide the uber fans their daily fix, right!? Right...? Then there's "The Catch Up": what could be described as a So-Far-Gone-throwback, Drake demonstrates his impressive lyricism, but allows his ego to once again take over what could be his strongest delivery ever. This amalgamation of songs is like opening a book of inspirational (or in this case, non-insprational) quotes; separately, each line has a meaning, but it makes no sense putting them together and they wouldn't do any good pulling them apart. I believe it's time for Drake to dig deeper, for once, and make music worthy of being called "his music".
Score: 4/10
Final say: Drake's flair is missing and I'm tired of hearing the same song four albums in a row...

No surprise here but Aubrey came though. 0 To 100 is filled with confident verses that can make anyone feel good. Drake sure knows how to get the world ready for official releases. 0 to 100 is a song that keeps you excited and eagerly anticipating whatever is to come next. Love love love the combination of both the uptempo and downtempo tracks. Drake knows how to do it.

DRAKE - 0 TO 100 / THE CATCH UP
7.5/10
Drake is such a talented, multifaceted artist capable of delivering both hard rap tracks and soulful R&B anthems, and he continues to deliver. 0 to 100 is a boastful hip hop song bearing resemblances to one of his previous singles, Started from the Bottom. It sounds pretty much like every other rap song we have heard from him which is both a negative and positive thing. I want to hear something different from him for once! The second part of the song, The Catch Up, is much better than 0 to 100 in my opinion. Drake's smoother, more personal, stripped back tracks are where he shines. I could have done without the outro however. Overall, I am highly impressed and now even more excited for Drake's next record!

Can someone make me a pretty banner that says "Prometheus' Weekly Reviews"?
Or would I be better off asking in Gif Request thread or something?

"0 to 100" accurately describes the transition of quality from 100 Forms of Fear to this. Let me get a review up.

0 To 100/The Catch Up

I'm not usually a big Hip-Hop listener except for a few exceptions so I will probably not have the same opinion as the usual Hip-Hop listeners. But this track did catch my attention. The first part of the song '0 to 100' is the best part of the song in my opinion. 'The catch Up' is just really blend. This is a strong single off even though it does sound like any other Drake song in my opinion. |

 | In "0 to 100 / Catch Up", the lead single from Drake's upcoming album "Views From The 6", is his way to tell the public that he's doing a good job in this business. The rapper gives serious and mature lyrics and tries to tell everyone he is ahead of the game. But is he? I think so. But, you can't compare yourself to Eminem, right? But, honestly, we didn't need another version of "Started From The Bottom". I feel that he could've been putting another theme for a lead single than this one. However, the production is amazing and his voice blends very well with the track. |

Drake - 0 to 100 / The Catch Up
7.2/10
This track, probably belonging to the Canadian rapper's next album Views From The 6, has been a greatly appreciated surprise release coming from the past week. First of all, I need to point out the part that's been the highlight for me: the production. Boi-1da, helped by the less known Noah "40" Shebib and Nineteen 85, made up a cool tune that reminisces the past work of Drake yet still sounding fresh. Aubrey's flow in the 0 to 100's part reminds closely of Started from The Bottom, probably for the similar theme in the lyrics too, without reproducing exactly the same thing but giving it a new spin. The closing part is the flaw of this single, imo. Too long and stretched that ended up boring me. Still a good effort!
