Cumhuriyet still works, it was never been the main newspaper tho. I dont know about the killed politicians? One died in a helicopter accident but dont know about the rest.

the turkish constitution gives the military this rights. different goverment bodies controlling each other is deeply democratic and in accordance with the rule of law
