The only problem I see is that ARTPOP as a concept just isn't that strong and wasn't executed correctly. The music itself is mostly great. But there's a disconnect.
I remember Gaga saying The Fame was all about feeling famous even when you aren't. BTW was about self-empowerment. She totally nailed both of those concepts imo. When you're feeling ******, listening to The Fame can make you feel like you're on top of the world. And though I rarely feel like some social outcast, I still get a good feeling from BTW, like no one can tell me what to do. But what am I supposed to feel with ARTPOP? Like I'm artistic? I do that myself by creating my own art, I don't need to listen to a song telling me ART and POP can belong together (though the song itself is admittedly glorious).
In my eyes, this era could've been so much stronger conceptually if she tweaked the album a bit and just made it
Goddess of Love. There are already a lot of great sex or love songs on the album, and she could've pushed the mythology stuff to the front and just made it more solid all around.
The only problem with the fans is that the "real" fans tell her "yaaass this is the definition of artistic achievement," which perhaps feeds her ego. But it's still up to her to make the final calls
