japan actually has a pretty bad history when it comes to xenophobia, especially towards other asians (like koreans)

I don't think y'all have traveled throughout all France, the United Kingdom or the United States to affirm they're rude though. I've heard NYC people are snobbish (a Paris tea) but I haven't met that many New Yorkers, personally.

Definitely not the UK, we are lovely! I can't say France. My best friend is Parisian and I never had any bad experiences when I went.

My friend is born to Japanese immigrants and she told me they would act nice & all but when you're gone they'll talk **** about you. It's like that in many other countries tho

i think the snobbishness of new yorkers is overstated, having spent a decent amount of time there. there are some mean people and a bit of an "i don't give a **** about you" attitude sometimes, but most of the people have never been rude to me. i guess that's just my impression and i might not have met the bad ones, but that's what i noticed

Don't mistake "anti-english language" for "rude". English is a world language accepted everywhere except in France, it's part of their culture and heritage of WW2.

I am from the States and have now lived in Paris for 7 months. I think there is a big difference between "French" and "Parisians".

Whenever I visited elsewhere in France - Strasbourg, Lille, Aix en Provence, people have been extremely nice. In Paris - it's different.

1) Parisians are VERY direct. While as Americans are very polite. Therefore the French's directness can be interpreted as rude.

2) Parisians are very proud of their French language. I am currently enrolled in the international program at HEC Paris, and I can tell you that the level of English in Paris is strikingly low compared to other European countries. As a result, Parisians get offended when you talk to them in English (like "why are you speaking to me in English, this is Paris, you should learn to speak French"). I find that if I at least try to start a sentence in French, I get a much better reaction.

That being ALL said, French people (and Parisians) are actually some of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. They are incredibly charming and loyal once you get to know them. Americans can strike up a conversation with anyone, but the French prefer to put their time and energy on those who truly matter to them.
