I went to Erasmus twice, once in Hungary which I loved so much that it made me want to do Erasmus in another place and I chose Italy (visited most of it) , it was one of the worst experiences of my life, i'm not the only one saying this since most people I know that went there also had bad experiences with the community, I wouldn't expect much from a country whereas south and north are always in conflict as if they were enemies so it was not really surprising to see the way they treat strangers, not to mention how dirty most of the cities are. I was literally called a monkey in Nápoles and I'm not even black, I'm mixed.
If anyone searches for Italy advice on google they also can see that this is true, very sad for such a beautiful place.

The south and the north of Italy are two completely different worlds, like Mexico and Canada. They've always been completely different culturally but the conflict isn't that serious, it never goes beyond some shade. Naples and most cities in the south have poor urban planning and are quite dirty so I can see why you didn't like it, I hated Naples too and I had bad experiences there with local people myself (these hunties serving at a bar laughed at me and my friends' faces for our northern accents

). But the rest of Italy has always seemed pretty neat to me, just a little too expensive.
And I can see why people get offended easily in Italy. Our humor is very offensive, and I was shocked to see people are so sensitive on certain topics on ATRL.
