Apple could shift up to 10 million units of its hotly anticipated iPhone 5 smartphone after the product launches this month, according to one analyst.
The world's largest technology firm will hold a major product announcement on September 12, at which the so-called iPhone 5 is widely expected to be launched.
It is thought that pre-orders will start on the same day and then the product will go on sale on September 21, although this has not been confirmed.
Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster, a long-time Apple commentator, said that the next generation of Apple's iPhone could smash previous sales records for the product.
In a research note reported by AllThingsD, Munster said if September 21 is the actual shipping date, then "Apple could sell 6 million to 10 million iPhone 5s in the final week of September barring supply issues".
Apple sold four million iPhone 4S handsets in just the first weekend after it was released in late October 2011. That beat the 1.7m iPhone 4s sold during the first three days after it went on sale in summer 2010.
The top-end estimate of 10 million iPhone 5 units sold in just the first week is incredibly bullish. The Samsung Galaxy S3, the smartphone's nearest competitor, took over two months to reach that figure (although Samsung has just announced that the S3 has now topped 20m sales in 100 days on the market).

One can only hope. It'd make sense since the iPhone 5 is what everyone expected the 4s to be. I'd love that cause truth be told I want Atleast a 4.3 inch screen. Not just a taller one.

It has a 4.0 inch display. It's 0.8 inch smaller than the S3. But that's kinda weird. They should've gone the 4.3 screen route.
If the 5 flops or at underperforms, the prices will go down the next generation. Seriously, if the S3 is selling at 700 USD with those top notch specs, I don't see what's been bugging Apple.

We can get the 16 GB 4S here at 100$ But I really hope they are priced competitively and that the specs wouldn't be a let down. I really think iPhones are overrated but Isince they are lagging behind Samsung, HTC and even the new Nokia handsets specs wise, I am expecting a huge step up unlike before when they were the leaders of the Smartphone Market. Samsung grabbed the top last year with the S2 and is still leading with the S3 right now. Nokia and HTC are pumping up so it'll be a very interesting Christmas.
But really though, Tim said they were doubling down on secrecy and all these leaks.
