I don't get it either. I think they're pretty good. Just look at it this way:

Katy Perry sold 6 million albums WW during the Teenage Dream era from 2010-2013. Rihanna sold like 12 million albums WW during the same span of time.

Rihanna released 3 albums from 2010-2013, and all of them went platinum in the US and sold at least 3M globally. That is NOTHING to scoff at, but of course the other stanbases will discredit her. In theory she could have exponentially increased her album sales if she had milked each era.

So do I.
- I mean with heavy promotion she did 9Mil WW with a re-release and 6Mil without one.
- Without heavy promo she did 3.5 consistently.

Take into consideration that her peers Gaga had an amazon deal and Katy frequently discounts her album.

I hate that we can only speak hypothetically but IF Rih had all the deals/promotion the other girls have she could do another 6Mil WW with ease.

Her album sales in the grand scheme of things aren't the best but over a period of time selling that many records is impressive no female artist has outsold her in total album sales or record sales since 2005.

She's a moderate album seller and it's evident that when the singles are the correct choice and properly promoted the album does well.

TTT sold around 4 Mill and due to Gran Gran Dolly's passing she had to cut a lot of promotion that could've made a difference in longevity ultimately.

Her getting sick also takes a toll.

Unapologetic would've did better but I do think she is slowly learning her lesson and so is her time.

I hope R8 will be handled better but I won't get my hopes up. I think her next album will be an indicator if she has truly peaked and her great album sales days are behind her.

Her album sales seem to have peaked around 3-3.8 Mill and we have reasons for this but ultimately it's up to Rihanna and her team to promote her era's better, effective promo, good single choices, album discounts when appropriate,etc.
