Well, sales are an indication of the success of the good music. Soooo yeahhhh. Its only natural for people to pay attention to them.

Good music? Gaga makes good POP music, but a lot of the other popular iTunes songs are complete garbage.

@Peanut
Ok than that's all my arguement is for. I have nothing against it until ur opinion of a song depends on sales.

So much true tea there.
I can't at GagaFan saying music that sells a lot is good music. Everyone knows it's SO not like that.

It is quite funny, because, most of the time it is the opposite.

I realllllyyy think you need to re-read what I said, imagine the context of the individual I Was referring to, and then re-think what you said. I fully recognize that most big sellers are ****. However, I was talking about GaGa. I am sure as hell concerned with her sales, because she is my favorite freaking artist.

Yes, the point was that a large part of the reason people follow the charts is because they like to see quality product (or at least what is quality in their opinion) succeed.

Did you not notice Def Jam? They list every label the artist has ever been with.

I have agreed with every post you've made so far.
Like....I just don't get why anyone who is a GaGa stan wouldn't care about her sales.

Gaga's music is nothing groundbreaking. It's very catchy, fun pop music. She and her presentation elevate it and make it more interesting than it ought to be...but the music itself isn't much better than other songs that top the charts.

Let's face it, 80% of the people on these boards know squat about music and have dreadful, childish taste. They just eat up whatever top 40 radio feeds them and are too lazy to even explore other stuff. THen, with the limited artists they support, they use arguments like sales and airplay to fight against each other. And this is the story of ATRL.
But I'm not here for that. I'm here for the 20% who have a brain here. You know who you are

Dance In The Dark would beg to differ.

While I agree that her songs that have topped the Hot 100 (Just Dance, Poker Face) and some of her other singles (Paparazzi, Love Game) have not really been that different, I think that the level of meaning of her songs is incredible, in particular in Alejandro. I mean...Pop music as a media can only go so far, and GaGa stretches that medium beautifully.

Hmm, depends. There is an awful lot of horrid crap out there, and Bad Romance/Paparazzi are easily two of the best Pop #1s in recent years.
If BR had made it to #1 on the Hot 100, I would have put it in the ten best or so #1s of the past decade.

Yeah, it's not groundbreaking at all. I will have to say that she's a MUCH better writer than any of her contemporaries, and that her songs are very, very well written, especially in The Fame Monster. And then of course, her whole persona is what propels everything else into seeming the best thing in the world.

I don't agree... Dance In The Dark, Speechless, hell even Teeth >>>>> but when you compare albums lyrically & meaningly TFM > TF even though TF had songs deeper than most **** out now.. Paper Gangsta for example. Just my opinion.

This. Paparazzi actually has some mysterious lyrics, which I love.
Shadow is burnt
Yellow dance in return
My lashes are dry
Purple teardrops I cry
