Sales matter in the pop music industry, and it's completely naive to think otherwise. Just ask Christina.

You want another 20 years of Gaga putting out the music that she wants to? You'd probably better have some vested interest in how well she does. She is not some indie band with no commercial expectations placed upon her.

There does not need to be a dichotomy between interest in both the commercial and artistic side of things. I wasn't even a fan of hers until I saw heard her amazing vocals in the Paparazzi VMA performance.

Yeah, but, Gaga is not even really making the kind of music she WANTS to be making. I am sure she would rather sell millions of jazz records, but that is not what sells these days. I will support my queen no matter if she "fails". If she goes to an indie label, good for her, she can REALLY do what she wants.

Ok, so you would have preferred she put out a jazz album to The Fame/TFM? I mean, that's fine, I love jazz, I just don't think many of her fans (who would be non-existent if she had gone that route) would agree.

When did I ever say anything of the slightest? Some of my favorite current artists (Janelle Monae, Sleigh Bells, Robyn, etc.) are almost completely unknown/unpopular (at least in America, in Robyn's case).

My point is there's no shame in hoping the artist you love has continued success. If the material on BTW is good, I'll like it and ***** it out on my iPod whether it sells 2 copies or 20m copies.
