Basically what Waffles said. His first couple albums sold well because all the tweens got their parents to buy it for them, but only "Baby" was a hit. Now that he's matured his image a bit and gained traction on radio, regular people are buying his singles too. Obviously he still relies on his younger fans, but Believe did wonders to change how the GP sees him.
1D need to do the same or else I fear they will still be able to sell albums in the US, but will generally be overlooked
