it's made stupider by the fact that people are supposedly offended by her use of a religious text when she's not even part of that religion. it's completely illogical; people who aren't part of said religion have no basis for knowing what is/isn't allowed, and furthermore, have no impetus to care.
like it's one thing when a member of said religion does something blasphemous in which case it makes sense for the community to be offended, because they should know better since the object in question supposedly has meaning to them. but in this case...i have trouble understanding why extremely pious people expect people to care what is considered offensive to them and what isn't outside the realm of actual prejudice. the entire concept of religion is that people are able to make different choices about what their "absolute truth" is - the principle itself implies that it's relevant to the individual or the group it pertains to and no one else. CL's not muslim, why should she care? it's not relevant to her.

So I've been reading through this thread and this response was the one that stuck out to me.
I'm not a muslim so I'm not offended at the usage, however I do see where they're coming from. It's a form of cultural appropriation. The point is that if you're not said-religion, you shouldn't use that religion to come across as cool and edgy. So when you're saying "why should CL care?", well, it's their religion that she is exploiting (or Teddy/YG... whoever you want to blame).
As I said, I'm personally not offended and I still think the song sounds good but if the song really does use excerpts from the Quran then I understand why some people are mad.
