This is such a simplistic and inaccurate view of pop, the assumption that catchy = shallow music without real quality. Taylor, even with her more pop sound, is still capable of creating catchy pop songs that are not vapid lyrically ("Clean," "Wonderland," "Wildest Dreams" immediately come to mind from the latest album). Honestly, Katy has done the same, too. While I think songs like "Roar" and "Shake It Off" are straight up tailor-made to be money-making radio smashes that aren't particularly impressive on an artistic level -- even by pop standards -- they have both made songs created for radio that
do retain both their emotional effect and ear-catching qualities.
