Russell Brand Defends Kanye West!!!
Quote:
At the 2008 VMAs, not only was Russell Brand the show's host, he was the most controversial figure of the night. This year, Brand may have returned as the night's host, but he was relieved of that second duty by: Kanye West, who jumped onstage during Taylor Swift's Best Female Video acceptance speech.
After the show, the comedian defended Kanye's behavior when he called in to Ryan Seacrest's radio show.
"We're all people; these things are a bit silly. Calm down, no one died, it's all right," Brand said, adding that Kanye got "a little bit excited" over Swift's win over Beyoncé. "Because in the past, I've made mistakes and done things a little bit daft, if I think someone has done things that I don't agree with, I think, well, I've done things in the past that I'm not proud of."
But Brand did agree that Kanye may have picked the wrong person to target. "Taylor Swift's a young kid, isn't she? Yeah, you can't make a pretty girl cry."
The comedian said that he knows the VMA-nominated rapper personally and thinks that he's just a nice guy who decided to do the wrong thing at the show. "I know Kanye, and I know he's a nice bloke," he said. "We all make mistakes in life."
It was a mistake that Kanye tried to fix very quickly Sunday night, when he took to his blog to write out an apology to Swift and her mom. And Brand seemed to think that the blog post should count for something. "I think he's already apologized, hasn't he?"
