Now that Best of 2011 is finished, I find myself looking forward to doing it again for 2012- assuming the world doesn't end.
Doing Best of 2011 allowed me to learn all sorts of new formatting codes and whatnot- resizing images, making tables, linking to direct posts, embedding youtube audio- and all of these things will prove useful in the future. Best of 2011 was an experiment for me, and hopefully I'll be able to improve for 2012.
Regarding 2012, I can already say that it will be the most musically varied year of my life. This year already brings confirmed releases from country/ country crossover artists Tim McGraw, Kellie Pickler, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Lionel Ritchie and Taylor Swift. In addition to this, I also plan to listen to confirmed albums from artists who I've never paid much attention to; Leona Lewis, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Cher, John Mayer, Nicki Minaj, Lana Del Ray, Jesse McCartney and Adam Lambert. 2012 also brings rumors of new albums from Shania Twain, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Natalia Kills, Beyonce, Hilary Duff, Celine Dion and the Jonas Brothers.
As we enter 2012, we also find several artists- including Adele, Lady Antebellum, Evanescence and Hunter Hayes- in the midst of their current album eras, meaning that they could potentially be included in my Best Singles of 2012 countdowns.
As if the new music 2012 will bring isn't enough, I also want to go back and discover to the older material of artists such as Evanescence and Beyonce, while also looking into legendary artists such as Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, and perhaps Madonna, Cher and Elton John.
All that said, for my Best of 2012, you can expect the Top Albums countdown to be expanded to include anywhere from 25 to 50 albums. Additionally, the top album tracks and top singles countdowns will both be much more diverse and competitive than they were this past year.
However, I'm telling you now the chance of Taylor NOT being my #1 album of 2012 is about 1%.
For my Best of 2011, my rule for a song or album's inclusion was that it either had to be released on an album or as a single in 2011.
For Best of 2012, I'm modifying this rule so that a song or album can be included if it was released after December 11, 2011- the day on which Best of 2011 began. This rule change is being made for 3 reasons; Taylor Swift's
Safe & Sound, Madonna's
Masterpiece and Adam Lambert's
Better Than I Know Myself. These three songs were released after I began my Best of 2011 countdown and were thus ineligible. Now, thanks to this rule modification, these songs will be able to appear in my Best of 2012.
For any of those interested, I've decided that I'm going to start up a weekly top 10 songs countdown in the top 10 section. Keep an eye out for my thread!
Finally, I'd like to thank everyone who followed my Best of 2011 countdown and I hope that you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed making it!
