Okay and what about the people who do get help? Why are you assuming no one gets help?

It's a disorder not an illness. There's a difference.

Lol, can we not compare OCD to someone's life threatening cancer? What a joke.
If you clearly can sit at home and self diagnose + not get proper help for your issue, then no one cares. At least I don't.

I am aware of Obssessive Compulsive Disorder , but Obssessive Christmas Disorder (the thing that this lil girl complains about) sounds like something made up since the thread / OP is about this, but do you

Meanwhile, the term “mental illness” is directly similar to “mental disorder.” The two terms may be used interchangeably as they tackle the same concepts. “Illness” is sometimes used to describe conditions, such as schizophrenia which has a strong biological basis but is not at all confirmatory.

+We all clearly know what you meant by "it's not an illness" - you weren't trying to say "it's not an illness, it's a disorder"

At this point that's just semantics though.
It still is something someone has to deal with in their life that is largely out of their natural control, that affects their life negatively and that they often need to get professional help with.
Is it less insulting to people because it's not an illness? It doesn't matter.

I can't believe at the people saying it doesn't exist. Thanks. What else can you reveal about the world?

Plus, who's sitting at home and self-diagnosing? What am I missing here?

There are many things that you can heal that are not life threatening to the people that have them. And luckily, OCD is one of them. Yea, cancer can be healed in some cases, but do you want to switch with a cancer patient? So... to me, you're not a victim. Why is this something you feel the need to internalize and take personally like you're the only person that has this disorder? That's like me getting upset by a shirt dealing with anxiety. I have severe anxiety and had a slight ocd problem when I was a kid. Do you know how hard I would laugh if someone made a joke about anxiety? I would personally wear the shirt!
Point is, life is too short to not allow yourself to be lighthearted. What good comes from this intention? Are you self satisfied? Will you do this when someone else does it? What if it were someone's idea to make the shirt that has OCD? The true issue lives within one's self and how they view themselves.. This is not about the shirt.

Why you put words in my mouth? I know what my intentions were and it wasn't that. It isn't an illness an we need to stop treating it as if it is one. Much like ADHD it's a disorder which is totally different.
Cancer an schizophrenia are illnesses, OCD is not no offense.

I'm not sexist

Just because you have to turn off all the lights in your house before you leave doesn't mean you have OCD. The main problem here is the fact that simple quirks that people have are automatically "OCD". I feel like people have been misdiagnosing themselves to the point where OCD is something of a joke, especially on places like Tumblr where people are dying to be unique and be victimized.
If everyone stopped misdiagnosing themselves with mental illnesses, these things would be taken more seriously.

uh, OCD isn't that rare. compared to other mental disorders, it's actually pretty common. that doesn't mean even close to the majority has it, but it's still a large number of people.
i don't know if this girl has OCD or not (and it's pretty stupid to assume she does or doesn't based on her social media accounts, because a large number of people are really uncomfortable talking about that on social media), but either way i don't think it's worth getting angry about. at least she's not saying "stupid is a slur" like some people do.
|
It is very uncommon actually, only 2.3% of the population is affected throughout their life, please don't get OCD confused:
"The phrase obsessive–compulsive is often used in an informal manner unrelated to OCD to describe someone who is excessively meticulous, perfectionistic, absorbed, or otherwise fixated."
THAT is not OCD, which clearly that girl doesn't understand.

So what you’re saying is that because YOU have no problem with it, and YOU are not personally victimized by the shirt, and YOU do not have any negative feelings or pain when you read the shirt and see something that affects your life so much be made into a joke, that everyone should too?
Nah.
If we all were more empathetic to each other, then we'd all be better off. Would your life be worse without this shirt? Would someone's be better? Let's go with the one that does the most good.
