charli is right.
iggy has already said before that she is a combination of rap and pop, hence the title of "The New Classic". she's already ADMITTED to being pop. but she also is a FEMALE RAPPER. i do not see the problem that everyone has with iggy, and i truly believe it's out of jealousy for her success.
YES, its true that iggy broke into pop and she was much more accessible to pop fans because she is white. but at the same time, what she gained in pop, she lost in urban. fancy did relatively well on urban but i don't believe her other singles did or will do well in the future because she is white. and this extends further than iggy, if i'm not mistaken, eminem's only top tens on urban were LTWYL, the monster and lose yourself. all massive hits that the radio was essentially forced to play because of their success. as big of a rap artist as he is, he still struggles on urban, most likely because of his skin color.
and i get that black rappers do struggle to break into pop, but it IS possible, as was the case of nicki minaj. so i'm really not understanding why hip-hop/rap is being made out to be a "blacks only" genre. i thought the whole idea of this culture movement was to assimilate into one unified culture, meaning black artists should be more accepted worldwide, as should white artists in the urban field. but instead it's being made out to be a discrimination against any race who is not black, at least from the perspective of azealia. and from all this i'm just getting that azealia and a few other artists are upset at iggy's success.
nicki, who is such an outspoken woman, has really never addressed this issue of iggy in the hip-hop industry. i believe this is because nicki knows she's more successful than iggy and thus doesn't feel the need to use race as a scapegoat as to why iggy is successful, because she isn't pressed over iggy's success. so i mean, if these other black rappers truly are concerned with the cultural issues in america (which i truly hope they are), then cool, but one white female rapper isn't causing the entire system's corruption. they should be attacking radios and music distributors who are placing iggy under the rap/hip-hop catagory, not the artist herself. and because they are attacking iggy herself, they're coming across as pressed over her success which isn't okay when you trivialize the race issues in america in the process.
but yeah, well said charli.
