I love love love love call me maybe, and everyhing by Lana del Rey and Britney and Rihanna and Paloma faith and kanye west and Christina and I love pop, I hate this girl
Are we still trying to argue over whom is a better artist?
Sorry, La Roux wins. Critical acclaim + successful singles (Bulletproof even did well in the US, she ain't local) + artistic integrity + genuinely good music will always trump "a cute pop song".
She did? What exactly did she say? I love her music but that's a bit sad...

And a GREAT pop song + great vocals will always trump so-so songs with horrible vocals.
'Call Me Maybe' has critical acclaim. 'Call Me Maybe' is genuinely good music. 'Call Me Maybe' is a successful single. I don't know what gives La Roux greater artistic integrity either, whatever that's supposed to mean.

"so-so songs with horrible vocals" Ok so your opinion is already wrong by the time we reach the end of the first sentence, but I'll humor the rest of this post.
La Roux simply has more integrity as an artist. Carly Rae's music used to be different from CMM, and when she hungered for success, she got it. La Roux would never change her sound just to appeal to the lowest common denominator, which is exactly what Carly did.
I don't care if CMM is "good music", it's not genuine music. It has the depth of a shotglass, and evokes virtually no emotional response from me.
And that's why La Roux will always be better than her.

"In For The Kill" = an absolute headache to listen to. She should maybe go out of that higher register once in a while.
You throw around words like 'genuine' - like why is 'Bulletproof' more genuine than 'Call Me Maybe'? Being more 'authentic' or whatever doesn't make it better. Not all songs have to trigger deep emotional responses, God knows La Roux's songs don't trigger any in me.
Carly Rae sings better music and has a better voice and isn't a horrible human being. And therefore she will always be better than La Roux for me.
I don't mind us having different opinions, but this rockist attitude of 'authenticity' and 'integrity' is extremely tiresome. I'd think I'm listening to the next Leonard Cohen the way her fans and Elly herself go on about her.
I get it though, unless she's wrapped up in a trendy outfit, singing an overproduced song with overexposed promo and overdone music videos, none of you want anything to do with her.
She'll remain getting rave reviews (76 on Metacritic for a debut, better than Adele, Gaga, Britney, Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy, Ke$ha, Christina, Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Carly Rae Jepsen, Lana Del Rey, Marina, etc.), being highly respected by the British media, earning Mercury Prize nominations, and being highly anticipated by the critical community, and the niche-pop fans.
I don't understand how this thread went on for 12 pages after this post.
Anyway. Everything she said was on point, but it's not like people with taste didn't already know this. So, she was kind of asking for it. Love her anyway.
Can't wait for all of you to come crawling back once the first single is released.

Well you'll be glad to know the new album will be in a much lower register.
La Roux is a damn fine singer. And an even better songwriter. Let me get some receipts for you.
Her music's not terrible. It's just completely unspectacular and yet she looks as if she's singing The Bible. The lyrics aren't remotely deep and she needs to stop acting like they are. It's the over-seriousness and tryhard 'authenticity' of it all that irritates me. So much style over substance. Unbearable.
And apparently she attracts fans who say things like "people with taste", "has more integrity as an artist" and... well... I'd be hard-pressed to pick and choose just one phrase that Gui Blackout spouted. It's all so very rockist.

Tell me what songs of hers you have listened to.
Because her fans understand what taste is.
Rockist.... ch, that's just as 'bad' as any of us La Roux stans have said.
Elly's shrillness is part of what makes her so appealing, her high voice is angelic yet frightening.
As for her lyrics, I like them because they're love songs without overly being love songs. She doesn't need to be like "OMG U HURT ME TO BAD SOMEONE LIKE ROLLING IN THE RUMORS IN THE RAIN" to create poignant songs about love.
