this.
At Popstar High, Britney is the pretty, preppy junior homecoming queen with an overbearing cop dad, but she has some ****ed up family history too.
Gaga is the chubby, talented but annoying theater chick doing **** for attention

That's a very basic way of viewing it. Its not so much about bras and panties but the theme behind it. Its Lolita esque and borderline pedophilia.
There's one photo she's in her childlike bedroom with baby dolls and various stuffed animals wearing short shorts and a push up bra and a little sweater.
There's another where her hair is in pigtail braids, laying on a car in a cheerleader outfit with her top half off (revealing her bra underneath) while she lifts up her skirt, revealing her thighs. I only just recently noticed the bra sticking out from under her top because they're the same color.
Then there's one she's outside wearing mary janes and kiddie socks, a tight shirt and pleated mini skirt, posing in front of a gate with fans behind her (one of them an elderly man).
And who can forget the one where she's posing with a tricycle with her back turned, wearing booty shorts that says 'BABY' on it Make no mistake, it still very inappropriate and raunchy to this day, especially since she was really a teenager and not an adult. David LaChapelle even spoke about his/their intent for the photo shoot.
|
The funny thing is, I wasn't even talking about magazines. I clearly said "performing on the stage." I was laughing about how people, adults and teens, perform in underwear nowadays, yes, even Britney! I've always made fun of the bra and panties look, and it always makes me giggle when I see what was considered "****ty" in earlier times. But thanks for replying anyway

I love them both but I think Gagas music and persona is relate-able to more people that Britneys at the moment. I'm not talking about fashion or lifestyle, I'm talking about emotion andsupport.

Britney is irrelevant and a nobody in the UK. They practically gave away tickets to her last tour because nobody wanted to go and see. FF flopped sales wise, only one top 10 single than also flopped sales wise.
Born This Way is one of the best selling albums of the year, (in the top 5 I think), went to number one for a few weeks and Born This Way and The Edge of Glory are in the top 40 of the year.
Gaga connects better with UK than Britney.

I would disagree but I got free tickets to the FF tour and I saw the list of people getting free tickets, literally hundreds.

In other news of the Material Mom and some younger competition, Madonna had this to say about Britney Spears to the Toronto Sun: “If she’s being called the new Madonna, that’s all right with me. I mean, there’s a lot more to being Madonna than taking off your clothes, so I hope she can live up to it.” (July 1998)

This is the problem though, there were people back when Britney first came out who ran the streets just to get her autograph, who stayed up until 5 am in the morning to see a glimpse of her and there were straight men who wore pink glittered shirts with her name on it just so she would sign it for them and get a kiss on the cheek. They had no shame. She had frat boys doing her choreography to Oops!...I Did It Again in front of national television. This isn't a fantasy this actually happened.
People loved her and they wore that **** proudly. Britney when she first came out was loved without abandon and it was okay to like Britney. It only became uncool to like her from 2001 onward. But people most certainly did love Britney without abandon, without shame and without guilt. They didn't feel guilty for it back then they did later because she wasn't as "cool" as the other rock/rap/hip hop artists who came out afterwards. This whole guilty pleasure thing for Britney is like that now but it wasn't always like that. Which was my point.
This has merit as well.

********. You must not have remembered phrases like 'Spear Britney' and the like? She had countless of anti web sites, people bashed her on the internet (especially the rock hipster types) all the time. Whether it be for being a bad role model for young girls, the breast implant rumors, her lackluster voice, called her a ****, etc. I remember it CLEARLY because I was 10 years old at the time and was clocking haters on the AOL message boards everyday ( ).
She along with other pop acts that emerged from 1997 were heckled by several Rock and Hip Hop artists for their similar music, subjective talent and being seemingly manufactured (most infamously by Eminem). It was not okay to like Britney. Lust for her, sure. But genuinely like her? Not at all.

This is true. The whole "bubblegum"/"teen pop" thing had a negative connotation at that time. And that's when we saw Eminem and a slew of "anti-Britneys," P!nk and Avril being two of them.

I think Brit, I mean even my mom says that she admires for how she went from almost being crazy to be doing music again, getting her body back and all that staying away from drama. Gaga is sweet but yes some ppl see her as a crazy bitch with weird outfit, they bring the man jokes, etc

Idk why some people are mistaking this for who is the most popular, or who is selling better etc.
I think people connect more with Gaga currently with this whole 'I've been bullied, but I'm over it' crap and whatnot but overall, Britney for many different reasons.

Is the Toronto Sun even a reliable source? she clearly changed her feelings about Britney as time went on. You're always doing the most. She has the utmost respect for Britney and has said so herself.

Selling isn't connecting? I listen to Born This Way but I don't connect with any of the songs except maybe Government Hooker and that's only when I'm feeling ****ty so...
