Yes, those artists Beyoncé is being compared to sold a huge amount of albums during their peaks and made such a great impact. Bey is doing that as well nowadays. Just because she hasn't done it in the same way the artists in the OP did doesn't she can be one of the biggest artists to ever graced planet Earth. You all do too much.

Janet was a star on Good Times since the late 70s, the most popular black sitcom on TV probably until The Cosby Show and Fresh Prince. She may not have been musically relevant until 86' but she was still a TV star in her own right long before.

Actually, I completely forgot about her role on Good Times. It was definitely a HUGE show. My mother, who grew up in the 80's, said that Control was the album that changed the public's perspective of Janet from nice little girl on Good Times to someone who could be taken more seriously.

So yeah, definitely agree with you.

We are talking about careers (solo, group or otherwise). Beyonce's career success began in 1997 and Janet's began in 1986. These are facts.

People are always afraid to admit that she is a legend already because most feel like legendary status can only be acquired when you've basically retired. Beyonce's power in the music industry surpasses all of her peers. Only Madonna can be regarded as equally powerful in the music industry.
If Bey stopped recording music today, she'd be a legend for our generation.

But I don't want to get some of the wasps' hopes up too high. Bey is still here to snatch and produce some immaculate albums and she's going to be THE showstopper of award shows for quite a while.
