This is so eloquently put I don't want to even disagree. Just pointing out that the amount of time Beyonce probably spends on her hair is in no way "manageable" and I doubt those are her intentions and I understand that she's black but the industry obviously likes to look for a certain type of black girls.

Not This:
Objectively, being in shape, good looking and talented helped her career but I do think she wears weave and colored contacts/brightens her skin for that reason. They want ambigious black girls who have features of both races to be marketable to both white and black people and Beyonce plays into this. For the "strong, powerful, feminist" she is I would expect her to challenge these roles. She has 500 million dollars she literally has nothing to lose.
I'm left to assume she either doesn't care or agrees with the practice of hiring these "safe" black girls since she as the alleged Queen does nothing to stop it. Also her unrealistic weaves make her look kind of like a drag queen, but if that's what she prefers then she can live her life.

I've never known her to wear contacts, but that picture is an extreme juxtaposition that she received backlash for, and I doubt she had any input there let alone time to sit and review those. But there's no doubt that all of the major black pop stars conform to European standards of beauty, both Beyoncé and Rihanna being the worst, and also the most successful. Any correlation there?
But what can Beyoncé do at this point in her career to fight the "safe black girl" battle when she can hardly sell her own CDs?
