Ooop yesss. Loving this set.
First of all, For Free is one of the best interludes ever. This diqueeee ain't free.
Hotline Bling is amazing, I can't believe I just discovered it like 2 months after its release.
The Great Forever
And I love WTF, it's still really Missy sure not on par with the classics but not bad.
Thank you
Agreed! For Free is one of the album's best moments and definitely one of the best interludes Good to know you got to pay for Kendick also
Nice that you're got into Hotline Bling
Agreed on Missy. Very nice to have her back though

That's all I remember from the album
Hotline Bling is so low But I guess it's understandable from you cuz it's not really hip-hop and not so serious
Right? Of all things, that's the most memorable line. Iconic though
Actually, I don't mind a not-so serious song, and it's not a big deal if it's not really a hip-hop song, genres don't bother me so much. It just wasn't a song I was too crazy about (still good though), and I'm just kind of sick of hearing all the covers of it

Don't worry, there will be plenty more Drake. Do you like Hotline Bling? I thought you didn't. At least Coldplai will be higher

Honestly, I can't listen to "For Free?" without thinking of this:
My mind can be quite goofy sometimes...and it was also that goofy mind that inspired me NOT to listen to "Blackstar" before the end of the year. Top of the backlog, no question.
That video The guy's face is one that I make on the regular.
Fair enough on the Avril Lavigne fanbase tribute song I randomly came across it and loved it, but it might be best to wait for the album to hear it.

Wow, this is the most flawless update yet.
For Free is really a hilarious masterpiece. I expected to see Hotline in the top 20 or so but I can see why it's there. Both Janet and Missy songs are outstanding too and have that trademark sound they are known for. And finally, I didn't expect to see Bowie here. It's a very strange song but it kinda slays. I guess it will be on my list next year. You can visit my Blackstar album thread if you want.
Thank you
Drake ends up doing very well. Hotline Bling is a song that I like a lot, but just don't love in the way that I love so many of his others.
The Janet song is really good. I was wondering what you thought of it. I really do think it's classic Jackson.
Blackstar is fantastic I didn't know you started a thread. I'll pay it a visit

I like this update. Not one bad song. For Free was a polarizing interlude at the start. I remember people hating it. It grew on me though and definitely is a part of the album. WTF really worked as Missy's comeback single, & Unbreakable worked as Janet's comeback album.
I'm a bit surprised Hotline Bling wasn't a bit higher
I could see people hating For Free I love it though. It says a lot and says it in a fun way if you you feel me.
Agreed on Missy and Janet.
Well, I had to save my love for certain other Drake songs for later

Hotline Bling
True and True Lose Control is just too good. Good memories with that one.

I love Bowie's new song too! I didn't have enough time to enjoy it to put it on my list though. I should have. WTF, while not on my list, is another good one that's kiiiinda messy but it's nice to have Pharrell on a track actually doing something kinda different from his past 100 productions.
Thank you!
The Bowie song is pretty great. You're telling me about the time though. It's 10 minutes long. Who has time for that? That's about 2.5 listens of Hotline Bling in Drake Equivalent Units!

Hotline Bling and Slip Slide being the favourites for me.
WTF is pretty alright. Not Missy's best, but still a fun time.
Gotta love that lovesong Bling To be honest, Slip Slide's hook reminds me of weeeeee are never ever getting back together.

I don't blame you for not listening to Bowie. That song is too long One of those, I'll wait for the album type songs.

I'm always nervous I'm writing too much and rambling. I always have a hard time being short but sweet
I like the short snarky comments.

Kendrick's interlude is really good! Hope to see more entries from him!
Industrial pop banger! I have no idea what the (UK) is for in the title, but eh, who cares it's a banger, kind of a dark one, but a banger nonetheless. The album will make my album list also.
I loved these girls on X-Factor so it's cool to see them with an actual hit. It's kind of a Talk Dirty knock-off, but that song was so good, I don't mind, and I will always be a sucker for brass in songs. I love the little switch-up in the beat when Kid Ink comes in.
I've never gotten the hate for this song. I've seen it called a redux of Since U Been Gone, basic, generic, etc. To me, it's always been a pick-me up and one of the outright unapologetically joyful songs of the year (there's really not many of those). I love the fact that it references Since U Been Gone, where that song celebrates breaking free of an ex, this one finds Kelly incredibly content with what she has, more than content actually, filled with newfound zeal and it's hard to deny that.
Possibly my favorite closer of the year Back Home, closes out one of the more underrated rap albums of the year on a ghostly note. It's a transitional track, all about moving on in one way or another. Rocky gives the final verses to his predecessors, the man who he got his nickname from, and the one who pulled the A$AP mob together. The finale of the song is a send-off to the departed A$AP Yams who gets the last word before disappearing into the clatter of an approaching train.
One of those songs that remind you why an artist is one of your favorites. It's a breezy folk tune, but only breezy in a way that an icy wind might gently roll over some little forgotten town in the middle of nowhere (which pretty much can describe all of Oregon from what I've heard). It's Sufjan so there's all kinds of allusions in the lyrics and those are nice also.
70. An attack that might get this guy a critical hit
69. o-o-o-o-o-o-omg
68. Drake loses another song. It's over, it's leaving, It's gone
67. I don't know if anybody knows this song but:
66. Future loses his first song. Poor Sia.
I kind of want to check out Sufjan Stevens. I've heard nothing but praise.
Check Sufjan! I think you might like him a lot. Carrie & Lowell is a great album. Highly recommended! My second avatar was a Sufjan avatar tbh. I even had one before I had a Drake one.

Worth It wasnt worth the debut,,,
Heartbeat Song
and I LOVE your write up on it
Poor HB, never recovered after he got Adele'd
I am literally watching A New Hope right now though
I feel like Wildheart is one of those albums where there is no real outright standout. Sure, you may have a favorite song during a day or a season, but those highlights are liable to change from day-to-day; it just seems to be one of those albums that has a lot to offer, with a lot to discover (the one thing I'd really like to discover, is why he decided to randomly not capitalize certain titles! It makes me angry to no end!). coffee and nwa made my best of for last year, so were ineligible for this best of. This is all fine, leaves hit me in a big way in fall. Miguel lied of course, the leaves do change here, but I didn't hold that against him. The song takes you to a specific place. You might as well be cruising on the PCH, the 101, or the 126 on a motorcycle during that peaceful time of day when the sun is about to start to set, and everything is golden. It's a great driving song, in the same way #Beautiful is.
Baby let me love you down / There's so many ways to love ya / Baby I can break you down / There's so many ways to love ya / Got me like, ooh my gosh...What? That's not this song? Omg. Well, Jamie's is a banger. Once it grabs you it's relentless. The best dance song on the album and the one that realy sets him apart as a solo artist.
That instrumental alone is enough to fall in love with. It's chilly and spacey, filled with clanging metal and gunshots (a gunshot means forward) fired through the emptiness. It's about moving on and pushing forward, hungry and unsatisfied and not looking back. It all sounds very lonely and icy, and Drake makes it sound like they're no other route for him. One of the highlights of If You're Reading This... without a doubt.
Probability of this becoming a Christmas Standard: near zero. But goddamn, Christmas and Chill might be my favorite thing Ari has ever done. Her honeyed vocals have never sounded better, with all the warmth of a cozy fire. This is also one of the most restrained offerings from Ari. The downtempo (slightly trippy!?) beat unwraps on it's own pace with only a couple bell flourishes decking it out. She needs to do more of this type of thing. For now, this was worth all the teasing that she did with that surprise release .
I feel like I'm obligated to mention how good of a year Drake had this year. A platinum mixtape, a random and unexpected hit, one of the year's best videos. and a charitable donation disguised as a collaborative project, a clever way to get a tax write-off in all honesty. There's really not much else to say about this one, except that t's a great sinister banger.
