First and foremost, pop music was not dead before Taylor Swift came out. Adele did 28M, P!nk did 6M, Katy did 3.5M, Bey did 3.5M, etc.
Second of all, Reba McEntire, Gretchen Wilson, Miranda Lambert, LeAnn Rimes, Trisha Yearwood, Sara Evans, etc. were all experiencing varying levels of success in 2005. Of course none of them were on Carrie's level, but the notion that country was dead, even for females, is idiotic.
