You do realize beyonce learned choreography by dancing to janet jackson.and that her entire sound of pop meets hip hop and r&b was because of janet jackson before her. . Learn your music history sis Janet isn't her biggest influence but come on now.
Yes and sadly most of Beyonce her songs are build from her vocal strength.
Beyonce herself has said she doesn't care about her choreo on stage or in her videos as much as she does about her vocals. In which Whitney,Sade and Tina all had a bigger influence on her .
the only influence Janet had on Beyonce is her ring the alarm choreo

the entire post-80s discography. this song is an example of the combination. the aplication of hip-hop beat, very less vocal runs in singing style, no complex phrasing

Ah thanks! I see what you meant. I asked because I had a very different idea of what we were talking about in comparison to Beyonce. I wouldn't say her entire post-80s discography is hip-hop influenced though.
Beyonce's hip-hop influenced songs are more than just pop vocals over a hip-hop beat. (Her song Hip Hop Star would fit into this category though). I was thinking more about her vocal style, so songs like Bug-a-Boo which uses a style somewhere between rapping and singing, or songs like Diva or Bow Down which are very Hip-Hop. Though I guess these would be considered closer to Hip Hop than Pop and thus Janet was doing a more even split between the two.
She's also a blueprint for girls in pop who are white though. Britney being perhaps the best example. And she is certainly not the blueprint for all black girls in pop though. For example, Rihanna shows very little Janet-isms.
Rihanna actually shows more Janet than any other female artist, with exception of maybe Aaliyah nowadays. Even though I think Madonna influences Rihanna, I think Rihanna's music is more similar to Janet than Madge.

The difficulty in this is that Rihanna has switched her style up so many times that it's hard to get a sense of who she is influenced by. I don't think that recording a few songs in a certain style means that an artist as a whole is influenced by that person. I can definitely see what you mean now, but find it hard to say that it's true because of the diversity of her music. Perhaps if we are talking about her more recent albums, those speak more to who she is as an artist.
The entire Control album because of that album it bridged further the gaps between r&b, pop and hip hop. It also helped create new jack swing, and the stale of the r&b independent anthems. (see TLC No Scrubs). You can hear how she changed r7b. I would have noted the janet. album but you would probably think she was going for the sound like everyone else, when she pioneered it.

Your argument makes little to no sense at all. There is much more ways to influence someone than just dancing, singing and image wise sis. If you actually read the entire post you would have known that Beyonce's sound was built upon from what Janet innovated. It's that reason Beyonce states a lot that Janet is her influence, because she influenced a lot of her PRODUCTION/SOUND she uses throughout her discography. Which is just as instrumental to a song as vocals, and instrumental in the progression of music.
I never stated Janet wasn't her biggest influence or that others haven't influenced Bey more but you can't deny Janet's obvious impact on her/DC because you don't like Janet. But i'm sleep doe
Her success is. No one smart enough will try to emulate HER anymore. There is only one Beyoncé, everyone has learned. Those who try to hard and lose their own identity, get lost in the wind. It's easier to go for Aaliyah, Rihanna, Ciara, or Brandy style and possibly hit for new girls. Beyoncé, and Alicia Keys for example, have carved their own niches in the R&B world. You won't find many able to mimic them and succeed.
Exactly. In my opinion, that is greater than influence. That makes you ONE of a kind.
Examples please.
Now Beyonce's r*b might not have much depth and artistry but it's still r&b.
There were others doing it but I think what helped Beyonce is that she came from a girl group that was r&b and evolved with more pop undertones and was accepted mainstream. Mary J wasn't always in hoodies and gangsta attire towards the late 90s that evolved but let's face it. Beyonce is gorgeous so the look is easier to associate despite some less than gorgeous artist rocking that attire. mary j is...I love ha. i can't do ha like that
For the most part. Especially entertainment wise.
Yep. Britney did it better than others like Xtina, Jessica and others.
Yeah Rihanna shows more Madonna esque to me
I think Madonna, MJ are the standard for entertainers in the pop world
I think Prince and Janet are the standard for entertainers in the r&b world
I think Mariah WAS the standard for hip POP.
I think Whitney & Celine were the standards for the balladeers
I think Tina turner is the standard for pop/rock/ac artists.
At one point when Britney cared about her career she was the standard for pop but now it's Rihanna.
At one point when Alicia and Usher cared about their careers they were standards for r&b but now Beyonce is the standard for R&B...I could say Justin but I mean 7 year break???
Pink is the standard for pop/punk/ac ish stuff.
THIS IS THE TYPE OF STUFF I like to see as thread conversations...healthy debate and agreeing to disagree and moving forward.
Not all of these bait threads for shock value.
She certainly paved the way and has shown the most longevity as she was for the 90s, 00s and I see some it still in the 10s but I think Beyonce has taken more of it in 10s.
But Mary Did influence Beyonce, faith, dem 90s girls, ashanti, keyshia cole, jasmine sullivan, etc.

I was just about to mention the Control album. lol
Many don't know that, that album is credited with bridging the gap between pop, R&B, and hip hop. Just how influential it was and still is.

Janet is definitely Rihanna's biggest influence. She takes a lot from her image and music
Beyonce is inspired by her image also

Hey if you listen to the velvet rope which is considered the first introspective/dark work released by a pop girl. Then listen to Rated R you can hear Janet's influence.
Janet's more pop than anything else but she does have a huge impact on R&B and basically invented what modern R&B and dance is with Control. But her influence goes far beyond that into other genres since she's more of a pop/dance singer and really diverse

It's not. She's more pop but she has some hip-hop influence, especially in You Want This, New Agenda, Got til it's Gone, You and some of her 80s stuff.

This, I have no idea why race was brought into this since every pop girl, white or black has mentioned her.
No. No one is emulating her sound.
All of the newer R&B acts are influenced by Aaliyah, Brandy, Janet & Prince on the progressive side and Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey & R. Kelly on the contemporary side.
Besides, Beyoncé herself is an emulation of past sounds. There's no way she is the blueprint. She hasn't done anything new or experimental. Any influence that she may pass on is not originated by her.
