Why is everyone making a big deal of this.

The list he used is clearly the Top 25 or so songs on what will be the Billboard Year-Ending chart for 2016. First of all, that Ariana song wouldn't have garnered enough points to the make the Top 25 and as culturally impactful as Beyonce's newest album was, none of her songs even came close to ending the year in the Top 50. Nothing he said was wrong.

Formation is not bigger than the majority of the songs on the list. It was barely a hit.

People saying it's bigger than Pillowtalk but didn't it debut @ #1 and stay in the top 10 for 17 weeks? Plus, I remember so many people at my Highschool singing it. I sing a random line, and people know what I'm talking about. If I say something about negro nose, someone may think I'm plain weird.

Sorry, but a month of ridiculous overhype for the song doesn't beat hits that were able to stand up on ACTUAL measurable metrics. Not just this "cultural impact" narrative that you all love to beat into the ground.

It managed to have equal web presence to one of the biggest hits of the year and it was sustained for the entire year. How could that happen if no one was seeking it out? Formation was never officially released, given away for free for months and still shot to the top 10 immediately once it was available just based almost exclusively on sales alone -- that's a measurable indication of popularity. You can shade the chart stats of a song that didn't have Spotify or YouTube support it all you'd like, but the fact remains that it's a high profile and well known song.

The list was pretty stupid anyway. Even though Bey's singles didn't chart well, they're still known by most people.

He should change his criteria to include songs that people actually liked and that were culturally relevant. That''s more representative of a year in music than copying Billboard's Top 10.
