I seriously question the intelligence of the people who parade around regurgitating "BTW was a flop" crap. It's just everywhere and they say it with a straight face.
The album flopped, the singles flopped, the tour flopped, she's fading, everyone hates her now.
When the receipts are pulled out, it's kind of hilarious how far removed these people are from reality. That's what you get when you believe everything you read. Especially if the sources are Gaga haters.
I wonder how surprised a lot of these people would be if all the pop girls receipts were made common knowledge. Rihanna's airplay:sales ratio, Katy's lack of starpower through touring and Google interest, even Adele's single sales compared to Gaga's...namely RITD and BTW.
21 is a great album, but the hype is doing nearly all the talking.
I agree 100% with you.
I think, though, that the biggest reason why they call it a flop it's that after an album which sold 15 or 16 million copies (I don't remember exactly), Born This Way "only" did 7 million.
It's so easy for them forgetting TFM's grandtotal comes from 2 different eras when this goes in their advantage to discredit Gaga.
A few reasons why they call BTW a flop, even tho it wasn't one.
TF/TFM sales
"Gaga’s manager, the savvy Troy Carter, has gone on record saying his goal is to move 30 million units of Born This Way worldwide. "
The era was supposed to last 2 years, with 8-9 singles.
Lack of longevity. Most of the albums that sold over one million copies in the US the first week are 3-4-5x and more platinum in the US, while might never reach the 3x platinum certification.
I hope not.
The kid has been in the business for only 2 years, he lacks of experience, in my opinion.
He can have 1 or 2 bonus songs, but NOT the lead single.
Lacks experience? He's been a producer for over 4 years.. He started producing at 14.. He has ALOT of unreleased content that he's been playing in his shows that already show he has the ability to take over the Pop & EDM world.. "The City" & "Stay Awake" are perfect examples of Pop.. "Technicolor" and "Cut, The Kid" are perfect examples of EDM.. I can even say he's better than Zedd at times.. Madeon can easily outdo alot of the current producers out there.. And he's 18, traveling the world, collabing with Lady Gaga, Ellie Goulding, Zedd, and so many others.. Lacks experience? Think not..

His first remixes/productions were just for fun, non serious productions, I can't count that as "experience"
A few examples.
We're talking about Gaga, the biggest pop star in the world, that lost a lot of the public interest (at least musically) last era. We need a HUGE comeback lead single, that's why I said he's not experienced enough for such an immense task in my opinion (but of course I may be totally wrong, let's wait and see)

I remember him saying that btw will move overall to 30 million unit.
Unfortunately, it is around 25M+
Btw Era: in term of million
Single: 9+
Judas: 2+
TEoG: 6+
YAI: 4+
MTN: 1+
Non Single: 0.2+
Hair: 0.25+ (I believe that it sold more than 250k, due to top 20 in 10 market
Assuming, it sold 500k copies..)
Album: 7.3+

[It's my estimation,tho...]
By "30 million units of Born This Way " he meant 30 million copies of the album Born This Way.
No he didn't. No industry exec in his right mind would make that kind of prediction. 21 hasn't even sold that much after two years.

I remember her wearing this at the height of the weight gain scandal. An unappreciated outfit IMO, I don't know why but I absolutely adore it. And those glasses

I thought it was fake, like, someone PhotoShop over it. But wow

I really don't get why people don't understand this. Effectively two albums selling more combined than one. What a shock.
If BTW was re-released with a TFM-like EP it could probably have shifted 12+ million. Though, I guess the few million drop from 16 would warrant it being labelled a flop.

The thing is, these are only reasons to consider BTW an underperformance relative to unrealistic expectations.
I've even seen people dismiss the tour as a flop because it failed to top fan predictions of $300 million gross. I mean...using unrealistic fan predictions as a means to discredit.
