I don't think he's actually trying to win minorities. To me, the fact that he's telling his white audiences that he's the better candidate for minorities is his way of guiding his followers to think that said minorires are stupid for supporting Hillary.
We've seen him try to make people think that the polls and the election are rigged against him, and now he's saying that he's "better for minorities" so that his followers will blame minorities for not voting for the candidate that
they think is better for minorities.
On election day, the Trumpsters will be like "Trump was clearly the better candidate for black voters, so why did all of those stupid black people vote for Clinton?"
If that makes sense.
