I've been contacting little monsters in Maryland, trying to convince our radio station to release + play our state's version of 'You and I'. We still haven't heard it, for ****s sake. They barely play 'You and I'. I've only heard the original version twice on the radio so far. I was so pissed this morning and was so desperate for our version, I wrote on their wall and they replied this:
:hey****you:

Yeah, us poor 4 syllable states got the short end of the stick.
There's only three men that I'll have in my whole life it's my daddy, Nebraska, and New Jersey, and California, and New York, and Texas, and Jesus Christ.
So everyone is ok with Gaga basically releasing 49 remixes of her song, but Katy gets all this crap?

It's still a desperate attempt to catapult to success. The point is though is that no one should come for Katy when Gaga is doing way more to boost the song high. Either way, it's a different version of the song.

good point but on the other hand if she releases 50 versions for every state and each of them sells an average of 3k, that's 150,000 copies
I honestly think she's doing this because people might want the version they hear on the radio, more than this being a desperate attempt at boosting her sales. Of course, the sales are just a plus.
I'm still confused about this. This songs is closely personal, and still she changes it in order to sell more copies of it? Money wins over "art" here? Srly the songs is so specific that the "ppl can adopt this as their own" doesnt work here. But whatever. She's still an artist who has to sell songs. Amen.
1. even though the song gains well on radio, eventually it'd stall at something like 70-80M, cos it's very dated. this state thing will definitely help to get more radio spins in home states, djs will be more welcoming to it and will help it go higher on radio.
2. people will hear the song on radio and will go to itunes to buy it, but they'll end up with nebraska version and will be like "wtf", then search for their specific x state version and buy it.
3. u&i gets increased airplay and inflated sales. win/win.
p.s. would love to hear District of Columbia version!
