its very overrated by Americans. Outside of the US she really doesn't have that many great receipts and/or doesn't have much impact
edit: pretty much what everyone has said above me. I'd never heard Janet Jackson be talked about in any context in real life other then when MJ died, let alone heard any of her songs on the radio or ANYWHERE. I only listened to her stuff once i came to ATRL because I realised she was actually a big star back in the day... so basically in America I guess she's remembered and overrated, but no where else.

Back in the day when people didn't know Janet's music very well they just didn't say anything because it would mean that they are ignorant, but now people are trying to be edgy by being proud of their ignorance and they're following each other. It's just a bandwagon tbh. I'm sure most people don't know Barbra Streisand's music, but they don't say anything about it.
