Do you guys think that artists/bands need a lot of promo/scandals etc. to be famous and have good sales? Like.. can they sell a lot without it?

if they're established they can totally sell without it.
But not without radio and media support, that won't work, unless you have 20m+ fans who buy ALL your albums and singles.

They need some type of buzz and Demi used her issues for that buzz. That's the ONLY reason why the general public payed attention. If she didn't go to rehab and had just done another album, she wouldn't have gotten nearly the promo/buzz she has had this era.

I don't think scandal is right though. Look at Lady Gaga. She is TRULY mastering the art of fame. She keeps people to talk about her through her clothes & performances. She doesn't need her personal life to be put into a scandal like others have (Not shading Demi, just saying).

They don't necesserally need scandals to sell, but theu need scandals to be talked about and being hyped. That's what I think, but then you can sell, but you're not considered an "hot topic".

Are you kidding? Gaga is the worst, you discover "old personnal issues" about her everyday...I'm not saying she's lying though, I wouldn't dare...but I doubt sometimes about the veracity of her statements.

Last year they had Beyonce, Britney Spears, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj.

This year it's Justin Bieber, Usher, Kelly Clarkson and others I can't remember.
The Pop Queens aren't there so I don't expect big numbers. I feel like it wasn't promoted honestly. I didn't know it was coming on today until twitter.

She stated issues about bullying but only to help her sales for Born This Way. WE on the internet may pay attention to Gaga's personal life but the general public & media never picks it up

I knew Selena before Demi, and then I saw Camp Rock and later found their videos on YT, and i started stanning hard.
Best friendship ever

i think it's kinda sad how Selena and Demi stans always fight since like a year or basically since they don't get along WELL anymore.
