It is true that every artist has to go through that, but if you look at Rihanna it is obvious that Gaga really (kinda) faded. She is still huge, but nowhere near Katy or Riri when it comes to new releases, I am just waiting for her next album... She still sells better than Rihanna and Katy in every single aspect except single sales though (at least recently). I get what you're saying, but it doesn't make sense when you are trying to match her numbers against theirs

Exactly. And all the people saying she's no longer relevant because she's not as big a deal in the media as she used to be, I have to point out that:

1. She has no new album or singles out at the moment. Artists don't make headlines just for touring unless they break unprecedented records or do noticeably crazy **** on tour.
2. It's not good to always be in the news. Do people already forget how nearly everyone was whining about her overexposure last year? I'd rather that she not be talked about all the time.

GaGa is more of a legend now than an it girl.

GaGa isn't fading. Adele may have crushed every single girl last year but that doesn't mean her career is over. Britney was blacklisted during the Britney era and part of In the Zone, but that didn't stop her from making more iconic hits after it was all set and done.

Rihanna had experienced abuse and was in the dark for most of 2009, but she came back stronger than ever afterwards and got her biggest hit to the date 2 years after all of that ****.

GaGa simply just had an era where she was only on top with the first single.

Hollaback Girl was the 2nd biggest song of 2005, and Poker Face was the 2nd biggest song of 2009. And note that Hollaback Girl was 4 years before Poker Face aswell, yet I hear Hollaback Girl more than Poker Face nowadays.

I think Poker Face has got really overshadowed by Bad Romance now, but Hollaback Girl hasn't really got overshadowed by anything (however hard Fergie tried to do it with London Bridge lol).

All this said though, I'd still probably consider Lady Gaga the biggest pop star in the world at the moment. I just don't think it's because of her that female artists wear "interesting" outfits. If anything, I actually think female artists wear more normal clothes than they used to, because now they're scared of being accused of copying Lady Gaga, whilst before anybody could do whatever and it'd be cool.

I haven't seen Hollaback Girl referenced in pop culture to anywhere near the same extent as Poker Face. Not denying that HG was massive, just that I really believe Poker Face has superseded it in impact.

the term 'it girl' only implies it's a temporary thing, and it sounds disposable, so yay for her getting rid of that title.

Just because she's in between albums and chose a dated sound for BTW, resulting in less successful singles, along with the dire mismanagement of the era, doesn't mean she's fading or isn't big any more.

DJWS' latest mixtape which supposedly has music for Gaga's new album on it sounds fresh so I wouldn't be worried about her success for the next album at least..

Not really. The music business is just a gamble to be honest. You can't win everytime. All artists have their lesser successfull albums. That doesn't mean she is fading. It's just a cycle everyone goes through in the music industry. You take risks, you get through them and you keep going. That's exactly what Gaga has done.
