I'm still hoping for a happy ending
But I didn't find it so depressing, just really interesting and captivating.
I couldn't stop reading because I wanted to know what would actually happen next ect.
Yes, some of it is cringe worthy though. But there are a few chapters where she talks about Niall and Harry kissing and them jerking eachother off. Getting the links for you.
Sleeping with Niall helped a lot. We didn’t do anything besides kiss and jerk each other off, but it helped, having a physical release of pent-up tension.

Well the ending was quite predictable in the last few chapters but before that it wasn't.
And the 'Small Steps' story picks up from there, I like it so far.
And no there are barely any fan fictions where they are straight.
I don't know why these girls have such a fascination about it.
