Yeah, when I was much younger, in elementary school and especially middle school, I used to be bullied for being foreign/foreign-looking. Students, and even some teachers, would taunt me in that kind of underhanded way of suggesting that because you are not a White or Black American, you are inferior. Or sometimes it was more overt, like telling me that I was related to Osama Bin Laden. These were such kind and motivating words to hear as a kid.
But, the good thing is that everything worked out for me eventually. They had their momentary cheap thrills, but I kept on being studious and ambitious, outperformed them all, got accepted into several Top 20 universities across the U.S., and never looked back.
Whenever I go back to that area, though, I am an absolute d*ck to everyone, which is completely the opposite of my normal personality around my current friends and those who are normally around me. I suppose I kick into a defensive mode based on my past experiences, a bit fearful of putting myself in a vulnerable position.
