And what happens with alot of the stations is the closer to the release date the more spins it gets.
For example Radio 1 have three playlists, A, B and C. A-list gets gets more spins than the B-List and B-List gets more spins than C-list. So songs are added to playlist 4 weeks before release and they normally start off in the C-List and will spend maybe a week in there, then they will move to the B-List for two weeks and the week before release they will be in the A-List, so radio play gradually builds as it gets closer to the release.
Now not every song is playlisted or even makes it to A-List, it just depends on how popular the songs proves to be with listeners.
