She made a jazz album (Gling-Glo) and her biggest hit is a jazz/big band song, "It's Oh So Quiet"
She made alternative rock songs with the band she was in, The Sugarcubes. I'm not very familiar with their music though, but I know they made rocky/indie-sounding songs.
She's kinda like the poster girl for industrial music, experimental music, avant-garde music, and trip-hop.
She obviously does electronic music, I mean, just listen to Biophilia.
"Post" was a pop album.
"Earth Intruders" was a tribal-sounding song.
She does rave music.
And she also does a cappella music.
The main objection, I guess, is that she's not part of this generation, but I mean, if Mariah Carey is being compared, Bjork is only 4 years older and has released an album more recently.

Let's not even go there; the one whistle note she hit was horrendous.
Not even close, but good try.

Mariah is pretty much the only prominent singer to have perfect control of all parts of her voice - whistle, head, chest, lower register and even the "whisper register" that she invented. Kelly is a phenomenal vocalist but they aren't in the same league
I don't know what the hell a whisper register is (and how it proves someone is a more versatile singer), but Kelly can EFFORTLESSLY control all those other aspects of her voice. I would prove them with YouTube videos, but I know you won't watch them.

Anyway, yes, she is extremely versatile. But I can't say I've ever been particularly convinced when she's singing RnB/Soul/Blues. She can add runs, but she has never been able to properly adapt her voice and add the soul needed to properly pull off those genres IMO. I think it's that her voice has a gritty quality to it where it should be more smooth and flowing.
Kelly is more convincing to me when singing soul/blues than Mariah. I think you NEED a gritty quality to pull it off. And for the record, Kelly can sound smooth and flowing when she wants. She adds the grit in order to make herself sound more convincing.
but can they do it well like Kelly? No, they can't.
If you want to hear rock then go listen to a REAL authentic rock artist. If you want to hear RnB then listen to a REAL authentic RnB artist.
why you want your fave to do a watered down pop-LITE version of these genres Im not sure. And thats exactly what they are....pop-LITE. She's not a rock chick and she's certainly no RnB diva.

I honestly believe she could be a R&B or a rock legend if she really wanted to do. She HAS the voice, but she's clearly stuck in the pop world as of now. Regardless, nothing you said contradicts the fact that Kelly is the most versatile singer of this generation.
and Bjorks voice is not remotely versatile. It always sounds the same. Its just the music backdrop that changes.
Well, there's a big difference between singing many different genres and singing many different styles. I mean, I'd say that Christina sings in many more different styles than Kelly. Kelly can just sing the same and it fits pop music, country music, rock music...

By that a lot of singers CAN be versatile around the world, but i think what makes an artist chamaleonic is actually capture those styles on her/his records...wich is what will remain in the future for the new generations.

Watch this when Kelly was in high school. You can not tell me she sounds the same on her pop music as she does here. (this is just one of MANY examples, but I'm picking the most obvious one)
