Barbra's going far, believe that! State of Independence is next, methinks!

State of Independence
Average Score: 6.31
Highest Score: 9 [Patrick]
Lowest Score: 3 [supaspaz]
A cover of a Jon & Vangelis tune released the year before, State of independence was one of the first tracks Donna recorder with Quincy Jones. The second single off of Donna Summer, the backup choir in the bridge has a load of famous face/ QJ friends: Dionne Warwick, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson! But supa was NOT here for it. Neither was the buying public, as it was not a real hit anywhere - except the Netherlands, which seems to have a real soft spot for The Queen.

Spring Affair
Average Score: 6.77
Highest Score: 8 madonnas, supapsaz, BoyonBoyWonder, Diamond Dust, Porygon2z
Lowest Score: 4 [YoYo]
Music and Lyrics by: Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, Pete Bellote
Taken from one of Donna's first albums, Four Seasons of Love, Spring Affair proved to be as liked, but not loved with our voters as it did with the public. Perhaps removing something from such a conceptual album (meant to represent the growth of a romantic relationship) was not the smartest choice?

When Love Cries
Average Score: 6.81
Highest Score: 9 [Amaru]
Lowest Score: 3 Geezus Haberdash
Music and Lyrics by: Donna Summer, Keith Diamond, Paul Chiten, Anthony Smith, Larry Henley
I can see why you like this, @michael; it wouldn't be out of place on Let's Get to It, Spellbound or Erotica. (PROMO?!?!?!) I myself thought it sounded like Naomi's Love and Tears, which is pretty impressive considering it was recorded three years before that song. Off of Mistaken Identity, and her most straightforward urban release ever, When Love Cries flopped. I'm all for it until that rap part.

I have a soft spot for this song. Part of me knows it's kind of terrible, but that chorus is just BLISS.

I'm a little surprised to see this one so low. That mix of synths and cascading strings is fantastic! I wonder what voters found lacking.

Really? Just me? I could not have been the only one who found this song to be completely and utterly absurd.

Wow, I do NOT remember this song. Listening to it again, I can definitely see those comparisons to Spellbound and Erotica. This sounds like something I'd actually like to hear Janet cover.
