Jessie J has mad vocal talent and is a good songwriter, but has no artistic direction either. She was a bunch of cliches and still gets played. The job of radio is to play music (Elephant is better than The Hardest Ever as an example) not to judge the person. And y'all damn well know they using this against her (all this convert shade **** - everyone from Rufus hound, to Gary barlow to Chris moyles shade her).

Jessie J has (sort of) made a name for herself in America, and her singles are decent. It's her album that is the problem.

I s'pose. I thought Alex's singles were great, better than Cheryl's and she's (well really thanks to syco) now got a problem. Her singles could've been US hits (as they pretty much were internationally focused) and weren't even put out there. And now she has an issue. Watch how she wouldn't be seen as a joke if she cracked the US when she came back in December 2010. And now they can use it (her current position) as leverage against her. I thought her album was good, but needed tweaking, but it couldn't really be better, as you still want to show off her pipes.

I think if Alexandra became a big name in America (which she can definitely do) and worked on her 'sound' a little more, radio would play her.

Katy and Rihanna are huge WW names and their songs are better than Alexandra's, you can't really not play someone like that. Olly Murs definitely has direction. JLS are of course trash, their appeal is that they are a boyband. Again, it's radio that has a problem with her, not me.

I think for a debut it was okay and did the job. I don't think the direction was her fault (oh and I know you're a fan ) due to the whole XF thing. Elephant is lyrically brilliant, but its the production IMO that is the issue. We'll have to see what she's come up with. I now think acoustic is the way to go. Elephant is incredible acoustic, but she loves to dance too. I'd like a 4 style album from her, but she's got to sell, and that's the issue too.

Elephant is totally the type of the song that could be a worldwide smash actually...

That's what I mean by the USA launch. She'd be a hot act, and would encounter the best producers (as Adele did i.e Ryan Tedder in a lift). Now she hasn't done that, she's pretty much f**ked herself up. And it annoys me. In the time period that she was recording the new album, she should've gone to the US in Spring 2010. She had a fine album with at least 4 singles, and a good styling. We'll have to see, but she's made life harder for herself without even realising it.

Cause Cowell's an idiot. and she wasn't in his category on XF. Notice 1D and Leona were. He had a vested interest in them. I don't know why he didn't, as he had a lot of money to gain. IMO he wanted her to sell, but didn't really give a ****, as when she came along he was still very much emotionally attached to Leona's success.

I've heard folk saying that...oddly I disliked it when I first heard it (autotune on a great singer is a NO NO and the melody of the chorus is generic; replace it with the remix chorus, and you have a tune). What do people think she should do to secure her place? i.e her direction? Lyrics?

Alexandra, Pixie Lott and so many others have the talent to break through, but they have ****** labels around them. Meanwhile 1 Direction and Taio Cruz have big US hits

I think her shift into a sexier image isn't helping her with the public either. It's like what happened with Pixie Lott on YFH.

So true. Plus they both have generic dance songs as singles when that doesn't actually represent their sound. Overcome didn't have many dance songs, this album probably won't and neither did any of Pixies albums. I think the industry is just in a state right now, it's a shame certain artists need to record 'hits' instead of what they want.

As long as she stays as she is, then its cool. Sexier doesn't have to mean ****ty. She's cool ATM IMO. The styling has to be on point though. She is rocking cool hair though. Alex was always sexy with her debut, but in a classy way. Pixie went from cool chic to Pamela Anderson and totally alienated her fanbase. I don't think Alex's style has caused a big dent in her popularity. Oddly, a lot of non fans like her new tune. But I didn't like the hot pants in the video, they could've used a large pair of knickers (if you get what I mean).

It's been like this since 2009. 4 was a great album, but no one took notice of it at all. I mean Countdown stalled at #75 in the US and #35 in the UK? WTF? A great song just flopped. It's all dance. I want Alex to go acoustic in sound. A 21 would be great for her with songs like End of time and Love on top (in style) on it. Acoustic brings out her voice more. Dance has served her well but its time to change for album 3. I hope dance fades out by the time this album ends, so she changes. But she needs to meet the right people too.

And the thing is, most people WANT to hear Alex do songs that are on par with her talent. I think she's just afraid of taking that risk. Her description of the album as being "fierce, fun & sexy" sounds like more songs like Elephant, which isn't bad, she's just capable of more. We'll see when the album arrives.

I think she's never looked better than she does in the Elephant video & shoot. I understand that but the general public-especially the British public which I find is much more critical than Americans-overreact when they see a bit of skin. A lot of the comments I've seen on Youtube has been harsh, calling her a sell out and what not. She just has to find a happy medium.

I totally agree. Odd thing is, her debut made sense, big ballads and uptempos. I don't get the sellout thing. Also Leona coming before her was a problem. They had to differentiate them. I want her to try and break America. With promo, she could easily do it. The advantage she has is she is brilliant live. And neither 1D, Cheryl, Cher lloyd and the wanted can boast that. I think she has a shot with Elephant, if her debut wasn't 'good enough' then she won't get there IMO ever. She does need to find a happy medium. I think she loves to perform, and so needs to think wisely. I'd prefer an uptempo followed by a haunting ballad. Similar to what Whitney did with her 2nd album.

Alex said that the 2nd single is produced by Cutfather. His discography isn't anything special. He has done some JLS/Pixie/The Saturdays tracks.
It will be interesting to see what he will produce Alexandra.

Looking at his discography his strong point seems to be ballads, I really hope that her 2nd single is a ballad, she needs one atm tbh! I mean look at the positive reaction to the Acoustic version of Elephant!
