people finally decide to put another genre of music on top of the charts and it's freaking indie. while there are tons of real musicians putting out great music and staying unnoticed
same for the Grammys and them nominating bon iver for everything
I thnk indie musicians are just as "real" as the musicians in other genres. No more, no less.
When was the last time an alternative band got to #1? I'm assuming Maroon 5 don't count lol.

If you count Nickelback as Alternative, then "How You Remind Me" in 2001, which is definitely the last "ROCK" song to go number one. Some people don't like to call them rock though...

It's an alternative song, it hit #1 on Modern Rock radio. "How You Remind Me" is considered the last rock song to hit #1 until "Makes Me Wonder" Billboard said once. ( altough MMW is a POP song)
I'm also glad he released a song like this. I hated DJ Got Us Fallin in Love and all those other songs he did that sounded exactly the same.
But I'm not getting my hopes up. This will probably flop because radio won't play it, and then he'll release DJ Got Us Fallin in Love, Part 5 and get another #1.
I swear if he releases another DJ Got Us Falling In Love i'm done with him. Hot Tottie was such a wasted opportunity though. It had so much potential to become a huge crossover hit.

Don't get your hopes up. Usher, in fact, was one of the artists that disappointed me the most with this Euro-Pop bandwagon. I'm still rolling my eyes of his "Rev Pop" invention he's hyping up or whatever. And YES, Hot Tottie was such a smash gone to waste. Just terrible.
