1. When did VH1 release the criteria on which this list was accumulated?
2. So you just gon' sit there and say success doesn't have anything to do with people ranking Madge #1?

Let's not bring Xtina into this. We're talking about why some of the ladies in here so strongly believe Madonna is better (in whatever way) than all of the women who came before her & after her. Those very words were said. I just want to be enlightened

Because Madonna revitalized music. She made music videos a medium to promote your music and cause controversy. She released strong songs with nice hooks and melodies and intricate lyrics. She headed a sexual revolution. She made interviews funny. She was eloquent. She invented re-invention. We shouldn't have to be explaining it.

I mean, influence can be dependent on success a lot of the time. But, I thought that was a given?
And you didn't answer my question. How was Whitney more successful and more impactful than Madonna in the 80s?

Whitney in the 80's was way more influential than Madonna
Whitney broke barriers, created music records and paved the way for many
Madonna did not!
Before Whitney, African American female artist were not selling multi platinum and beyond
in America,
Whitney was the 1st african american female to do diamond! and
if i'm not mistaken she was also the 1st FEMALE OVERALL to get a diamond certification and to debut at number 1
and Whitney with 2 albums released in the 80's eclipse Madonna and Madonna had what 4
albums in the 80's?
Whitney OUTSOLD her and had MORE HITS, and establish Billboard records (Madonna didn't)
and Whitney only did it with 2 albums, while Madonna had like
what 4 albums in the 80's?
and Whitney's artistry was/is her voice, which reign supreme over Madonna

Sis, I already dragged Madge and her stans on everything you just mentioned. I'll just re-direct you, just start on page four:

Madonna is a certified legend and icon. But, to say she is more influential/greater than anyone before or after her just emphasizes the delusion.

People who didn't grow up in the 80's shouldn't comment on what kind of impact on influence a person had in that time. I think u had to live through it to feel the impact or know the influence, which has nothing to do with billboard hits and album peaks. That's why certain topics on here shouldn't be discussed because most of us did not grow up in that time, admit it some of us are young, some more musically knowledgeable than others.

what u said is true tho. I don't agree with ur first point about Madonna, but it's true that whitney broke down racial barriers in music like MJ did.

No, "greater" which is understood in this context as the artist with the most success and impact. This is Madonna.

Your "drag" didn't work. Madonna is the most influential female singer of all times.

Just one example: the Not Myself Tonight video is based on Madonna's 1989 Express Yourself video.
