According to my theory people who go to a Britney Spears concert just go for the curiosity they feel to see in person "Britney Spears", they don't go to the concert especting a vocalist or live music or something like that .... Britney's been an icon and I think people just pay to see her physically that's all.

Uhmmm . . . Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Beyonce, Xtina and countless other performers have denounced lip-syncing way before Lady Gaga; and the public has mostly been against lip-syncing in general (especially to avoid another Milli Vanilli incident).
Britney is one of the few popstars in recent years that the general public has come to expect to lip-sync, thus making it a norm. It doesn't mean that the public is in favor of it. But there are events that are just too big to risk technical issues, etc . . . so in those events lipping has become expected as well.

Just put out music videos or something...
by the way, does anyone know if Katy lip synced during her California Dreams tour? I saw it and thought she did an amazing job singing live, it didn't seem like she was lip syncing at all, I'd be disappointed if I found out that she actually wasn't singing live.
If it really came down to it, especially on performances like Gaga's Judas on SNL, would y'all rather her have stood there and delivered a good live vocal or had her dance so much and have some parts be shaky? It seems obvious to me what the preferable option would be...

She sang live throughout the show. She had a backing track on some songs but it wasn't that loud. Katy sounds great in concert and is 100% live

I think it's okay if you have something else to do, like dancing.
For example, Madonna's Superbowl performance was great even though she lipped the entire thing.

Raves? Not in Australia. Her lip synching was so terrible that the Australian government actually was actually considering legislation to make sure it never happens again.
Only the Queen.

How is Michael overrated again? People who say such things REALLY show themselves and their "knowledge" of artistry and performing...

Anyone who says that lip-syncing isn't a big deal to the general public is delusional. My Facebook news feed was filled with people mocking Madonna for not singing and I know that my circle of friends looks down on any "singer" who can't ****ing sing when performing. Usually, the artists who are lip-syncing are the ones who can't sing that well to begin with, and they use the fact that they're dancing and what not as an excuse not to sing. Gaga and Beyonce dance a lot but you don't see them lip-syncing.
I can't with some of y'all

It's not that hard to understand this motion. Plus, you get to hear her majestic, angelical, glorious, miraclous, curing live voice on the live ballad

I think as a rule any person with an extraordinary amount of fame could be considered overrated. There's nothing about that person that makes them deserving of having 20x the success of other artists. I'm not denying that Michael was super talented, but he also got lucky. There are people just as talented and even more talented who will never see his sort of success simply because the stars didn't align for them.

I don't think people saying he's overrated think he's actually bad. Michael was extremely talented but people overrate him alright.

Umm...no they don't.

!!!!!!!!!!
All of my favorites can sing and perform LIVE at the drop of a dime.
Michael Jackson is overrated but his talent and how he transformed Pop into an actual genre kinda defines that he be lifted among the mere mortals. I'm a bigger Prince fan so....

I generally abhor lip-syncing, though in cases of complex, physically demanding choreography I understand that it's impossible to pull it off with live singing. Still, I'd rather that they just do the dance routine with prerecorded vocals without the pretense of singing live. And when it gets to the point that you lip-sync more often than you actually sing, you may want to perhaps tone down the dancing to a level where you can feasibly do both at once. I love Michael, but I hate that so many of his performances were lipped, it made him look lazy and gives his detractors reason to say he doesn't deserve so much credit as an artist. Same with Janet and Madonna.
Lip-syncing because you really can't sing well live is flat-out unacceptable, though. Find another career if that's what you plan on doing as a "singer". It's wrong to rip off your fans like that.

My fave never lip-syncs and doesn't need to.
I refuse to believe that MJ lipped.

I really don't like lip singers, however with Britney I don't mind it most times because of the dancing which I know could be exhausting, and she has a weak voice as it is. Like someone else said, people go to see Britney just to see her in person and because of her performing. Not singing lol. Since Britney isn't much of a singer, I head towards Adele, Xtina, and Florence since they sing. And I know that they wont let me down as far as singing goes.
