In the “controversy sells” category, Interscope’s Lana Del Rey album, Born to Die, is surpassing expectations with a first-week total that should do between 55-60k.
They're good numbers, early predictions were like half this, she's getting pretty bad reviews, her only promotion turned her into a pop culture joke of the week and her relationship with radio may or may not involve a 10 foot pole. Nothing to complain about.
I bet her management planned for this album to come out the week where there are hardly any popular artists releasing new albums so she could get a number 2 album while only selling 70K.... of course for her 70K is great because she is so new.
Honestly though, for me the music is pretentious and overdramatic (and not in a good way) and doesn't deserve the buzz it's getting. I'm still confused as to why she was already on SNL when she is basically a nobody. Even with this #2 album she will still pretty much be unknown to those who aren't avid music fans.
Also she's getting a lot of attention for her beauty as well as her music, but her face is fake.........
it feels like she is being forced upon us in a very insincere way and i don't think she will be around very long.
