People need to stop bringing these album receipts out of their asses. They mean NOTHING. Celine Dion has like what, two 30 million-selling albums? I bet not a damn person on this board could name any of the songs on either of them. Hell, they probably couldn't even name the albums. Linkin Park has a 20+ million-selling album, and let's be honest: who really gives a **** about them anymore? And does anyone remember this?
21 million copies. And I'm sure every single copy bought is resting in some landfill.
The deluded people on this site, I swear.

Oh sweetie, don't let these fools, fool you. In the 80's through the earl 00's. Janet was considered a pop goddess, she was once called THE QUEEN OF POP, during the time when Madonna and Whitney had also been on the rise.
Her fame doesn't go unnoticed, her fame is underwhelmed due to the fact that most of the users on here are under the age of 20. Janet wasn't the force she was in the 80's and 90's as she was in the 00's due to the superbowl.
She was on the rise the earlier half of the 21st century. She was THE FIRST female superstar ever, even before Madonna to have 3 number 1 singles in 3 different decades. I'm sure these girls all remember All For You, Doesn't Really Matter, and Someone to Call My Lover. All big hits in the 00's. Just those hits are now over 10 years old.
And don't let them sit here and let you call her local. She has many global number 1 hits. TOGETHER AGAIN, ALL FOR YOU, THATS THE WAY LOVE GOES, RHYTHM NATION, LOVE WOULD NEVER DO, ETC. ETC. And she used to tour and sell out arenas as far as Israel, Indonesia, and Asia. She is not local one bit, she just hasn't been big in europe since the last time she had toured there until recently was 1998. As far as Asia and Australia she has still slayed there, even after the superbowl, they love her there.
Janet just the last 8 years of her career didn't stay consistent with her legacy and so to those UNDER 20(Which is majority of the users who post all the time here) have fell off. But trust if you were around the late 80's, 90's or early 00's, you would of considered her up there with the pop legends. She was first to receive awards like MTV ICON, Vanguard awards, World Music Awards Acheivement Awards etc. etc. As well as being the highest paid female artist of all time with her 80 million dollar record deal. Janet is a force, and trust that the anticipation is building for her return. She is still very much a staple in the pop music world.

I mean... !!!!!
I grew up watching Janet so I know how big she was. That's why I don't understand. That's why I said if it hadn't been for the Superbowl, it would be a different story.

That reference always annoyed me, because it showed that Janet fundamentally didn't GET what Madonna was doing. They were approaching sex from two different directions; Janet's was personal, Madonna's was politicized. It was the only time (well, before 20 YO) that I was disappointed with Janet.

I mean how are a bunch of 15 and 16 year olds going to tell someone what LEGEND when they were not even born or were still in huggies when legends were slaying. Sit down, and stick to your pop dribble being made today.
I mean these are the same children who think Britney Spears and Beyonce are more talented and better than people like Madonna, Prince, and Michael Jackson. Their opinions are void and invalid.

The Rock N Roll hall of fame aint ****.
Whitney's legendary voice and vocal techniques has become the blueprint of how a female singer should try to emulate and attain her skills. She changed music and artistic perceptions.

Falling Into You won the Grammy for Album of the Year, right? With the MEGA HITS It's All Coming Back to Me Now and Because You Love Me attached?
Don't assume. You know what happens when you do!

I didn't grow up in a Janet household. I only knew Rhythm Nation, All For You, Feedback, and Make Me.

Janet is LEGEND, not just because of her sales, but because of her impact in pop and her influcne and in the music world is seen as a staple in pop. DEAL.
|
In a way it does, because sales represent impact to an extent and there sales WW >>>>>>>> than Janet's. It's not that hard to see. But your a stan, so your probably won't see it. She's an icon, for sure, but she isn't a legend.

Janet was overshadowed by Madonna during the 90s and she kinda fell off after the Superbowl so it's not surprising why the general public have forgotten her. Plus she only had like two or three REAL big & impactful hits outside the U.S throughout her late 80's mid 90's peak.

Whitney is the legend out of the 3.
Janet and Cher are just high-tier ICONS. They can be argued as Legends.. but in reality they are not.

it's not that she has a billboard. LOOK AT THE CAPTION. Before they even say what they're selling. They acknowledge that she's a LEGEND.

Which is why Mariah gets all the credit for that now and will be inducted first.
Mimi also is credited for combining a big voice with a pen, something that directly inspired Bey, Christina and Kelly - and something that Whitney and Celine will never have to concern themselves with.
