For each song AI is tracked for one week so for example RIHANNA - We Found Love f/Calvin Harris: 149.310 number means 149.310 in 7 days or ~21.3M daily AI. When new year countdowns take place all new songs loses airplay because all old popular songs is played in year end top 100/40 or whatever top was. Yesterday overall song AI included 31/12 and 01/01 when countdowns was played the most. Today's update doesn't include 31/12 instead there is 07/01 AI where new songs has more AI.
Example
Regular 7 day updates
1st - 10
2nd - 10
3rd - 10
4th - 10
5th - 10
6th - 10
7th - 10
total is 70M AI
so if AI next(8th) day is 11 then update is 71(+1)
if AI is 9 then update is 69(-1)
for New year updates updates look somehow like this
31/12 - 5 - reduced because of all countdowns
01/01 - 5
3rd - 10
4th - 10
5th - 10
6th - 10
7th - 10
Total is 60 but since play lists is returned to normal, then if 8th day AI is 11 then update looks like 66(+6)
For big new releases is opposite when song opens big (like it was YDO recently) and then stabilizes
1st - 15
2nd - 13
3rd - 11
4th - 11
5th - 10
6th - 10
7th - 10
Total is 80 but since play count is stabilized, then if 8th day AI is 10 then update looks like 75(-5), this is what is called Rolling effect.
I hope it makes clear situation with updates
