FTP is certainly not better than many other bands of the same genre like MGMT, Friendly Fires or Two Door Cinema Club.

That silly song became successful because the chorus was catchy enough for it to appeal to pop audiences, in the end it doesn't mean anything because people already forgot about them. (I bet some people didn't even know the name of the artist)

I'm sure most people didn't pay attention the lyrics closely. The song was like ear candy, very catchy.

It was everywhere in the summer, everyone singing like it was some nursery rhyme. Kinda creepy.

She got the #1, but it helped that Flo's RR was affected by the fact it was removed from iTunes. If I remember correctly, they were fairly close in points.
