I remember a lot of Beyonce's fans were saying she was going to slay without him because he "limited" her and this is what ended up happening. She needs Mathew back, he never would have let the 4 era get this messy. The big problem with Beyonce's era was the material it just wasn't good enough to crossover and Beyonce needs crossover support to be huge. Promotion and endless videos can only get you so far.

Except Mathew has been busy teaching at universities the last few years and hasn't even been heavily active in her career since her 2nd album.

This era has been messy from the beginning.
Her pregnancy, rightfully so, was her main priority.
With that said, she really should have shelved this album or made smarter decisions with promo.
Performing 1+1 on AI was a mistake. Performing Love on Top at the VMAs when BTINH was the single was a mistake.
There has been no promo to support the singles then all these damn videos.
Like I said, it's a mess.
