Things ALWAYS happen for a reason. It perhaps wasn't meant to be this time around.

I actually know of this scholarship - I wanted to be a Russian/Linguistics double major, but decided against Russian in the end. Just remain positive and as long as you love what you're learning, it won't seem a rejection, just another year to experience other new things.

In addition, students in big cities have more competition because they accept students regionally. There is less of a chance in a place like New York.
