Outside of Music, Jay has created an entire empire. Rocawear clothing continus to be huge, he owns a part of the Nets (and he's moving them to his own hometown of Brooklyn) and has signed, or has had a hand in signing huge superstars (Rihanna, Kanye, and Ne-Yo although he fell off). In Hip-Hop, he's signed Jeezy, Ross, and other successes. He was CEO of Def Jam Records at one point. He married Beyonce (swag). After a speech, The president brushed the dirt off his shoulders. He took Oprah to the projects in Marcy. He's a part of the biggest beef in Hip-Hop history with Nas. 99% of rappers will name that Jay influenced them over any other rapper. He co-ows the 40/40 club. He was on the cover of Forbes, and is projected to be a Billionaire in a couple of years (by Forbes). Isn't he working on creating an Annie remake with Will Smith on board and his daughter?
In his own music, he has more number 1 solo albums than anyone ever, has the second highest grossing tour in Rap history (behind Wayne), 13 Grammy's, and successful collaborations with artists like R.Kelly, Linkin Park, and Kanye. He was the first rapper to headline Glastonbury, which started a bunch of controversy but his set was acclaimed like cray. He's the king of Summer Jam, and has so many hits lol. As a persona, he's as big as someone can get imo. Em definitely has sales and many amazing achievements of his own, but some people are acting like Jay has no chance. I mean I really feel like if you asked a bunch of people who the king of Hip-Hop is, it would be extremely close.
Edit: And he just broke the record for most top 10's by a rapper
