What's wrong with trying to help people learn? If you don't want to, fine. But, if you do, there's no reason a thread like this can't help.

"Than" is only used for comparisons and "then" means next or right after.
Idk "in" and "on". I think "in" is short for inside and "on" means on top of or on the surface. It also is like a date for something.
|
''In'' is also used when you say ''I live in England'', so I think when you're talking about being in a country you use ''in''. ''On'' can also be used when you say ''What are you going to do on your birthday?'', I think. But I really don't know the rules tho. I know how to use it.

that doesn't make any sense since we actually know more about grammar than the natives. y'know, we actually LEARN english whilst you guys use it every day & don't pay attention to those things.
|
It's not foreigners who are to blame. Anyone who says that is ignorant. It's the contradictions in the grammatical rules that are to blame. English is a mixture of a bunch of languages, and because of that the many rules have become very inconsistent. In the very first post of this thread, it's made clear that this isn't about native vs. non-native speakers. So why anyone ever made it about that is beyond me.

Personally i misspell things on here because i'm just lazy and its just a forum... it's not like writing an english paper or whatever.. its like texting, you dont need proper grammar all the time
that being said this thread was not made to come here and say that grammar isnt important... it was made for people who actually want to improve their grammar... I especially see this helping non-native speakers who just want to ask questions like what's the difference between "x" and "x"

Back on topic.
It's not easy to learn a new language, it takes years and years to perfect it. + isn't English like the second or third hardest language to learn?
|
In is used in a couple of ways. One way is Place of Where. This is probably the most common.
Where am I? I am in here.
Where do you watch movies? You watch movies in the cinema.
Where is the shoe? The shoe is in(side of) the box.
On basically means on top of.
Where is the shoe? The shoe is on (top of) the box.
Where's the book? It's on (top of) the table.
There are also some idiomatic uses of in and on. In is used in reference to cities, countries, etc. It is also used for months and years.
I live in Paris.
I live in France.
I live in Europe.
I was born in February.
I was born in 19XX
On is used with street names and days and dates. Also, it's used with planets.
I live on X St, Y City, Z Country.
I was born on a Friday.
I was born on February nth, 19XX.
I live on Earth.
I think that's about it.

English isn't that hard. There are no genders and cases for nouns, no suffixes for adjectives...

also, english is one of the easiest languages to learn, probably cos a lot of things in the english language are very consistent - tenses, plural nouns, comparative & superlative forms etc.
no masculine/feminine nouns, no etres and avoirs in conjugations.
it's also extremely flexible.
i've been learning english for four years now and i've found no difficulties with it.

They're also prepositions of time: in 2009, in the 20th century, in December, on Monday, on Saturday afternoon, on November 26...

Not for you and I because we are natives (I think you are). Gender cases are easy, as well as suffixes for adjectives. What's hard is the use of prepositions, little rules and quirks in English that have many exceptions and the amount of time needed to know every in and out of English. Over 500,000 words exist and yet a master English speaker only knows 20,000 commonly used words and 35,000 known words

"On a Wednesday, en el verano, en agosto."
Buy Lady Gaga's 14th single, "Americano" right now for a great lesson in Grammar!
