True, we can look at
"Cockiness" and
"Roc Me Out" and see those influences blend into a more mature sound, but
"You da One" is just like MOTS/AGLM Rihanna. Yes, there is the
tiniest hint of a more mature Rihanna in this song, but lyrically, vocally, and production-wise, it is just like a MOTS/AGLM reject was re-worked into what we have now. (I do still stan for YDO, btw).
Image wise, I honestly think she has to have the curls to match the denim overalls, bandana bras and other clothing that she's wearing this era, as the straight hair wouldn't work at all.
it might turn into one of my fave songs by Rihanna.
